No running - nurses' orders! :-(

I had a minor op this morning. Obviously knew I wouldn't be running tonight but hadn't really thought past that. However, the nurse told me that I can't run for a while for two reasons - firstly, the wound bled quite a lot and they don't want me to either re-open it or prevent it healing and secondly because raising my BP will likely make it bleed more too.

I'm gutted. Guess I'll just be doing a few gentle walks this weekend :-(

Oh no! I'm really sorry to hear that, after all your hard work. It's better to take nurses orders though, rather than risk further injury. When she said for a while, do you know how long she meant?

10 days - until I have the stitches out. But, if it's healing well then I may try a gentle run sooner - it's the arm movement that will cause the problem.

10 days is nothing.

Hopefully it's not a long break, the bonus is you'll come back fresh! Maybe you could incorporate some stretches for those running muscles on your days off. Or plan some new routes to keep you occupied.

I can also chat to the guys at the gym - they may be able to recommend some stuff that won't affect my shoulder/upper back where the wound is. Would have thought exercise bike would be ok and, as you say, I can probably do some strength work on my legs. We're funny creatures - we "look forward" to our runs with as much dread as anything else and when we're told we need to give it a little break, we get all sad about. Six months ago I would have been overjoyed if I'd been told I couldn't do any physical activity!!!!!

Take care of yourself and you will be back with great gusto!

Just take 10 days off. Don't try gentle anything. You are not in training for theOlympics. It wil not hurt you to have a 10 day break from training. Whereas it might hurt you, or ause you to be in the IC much longer if you are macho about it.
