I'm back

Cautiously starting here again, I'm still falling asleep a lot and slow thinking but I want to ease myself back into the forums and with the excellent back up I have on here I feel confident about coming back.

Both operations went very well and the kidney is working well and doing its thing. MrRfc came home 7 days after his op and has a normal kidney function now, his main job now is to get get his immunosuppressants and anti rejection medication balanced, that will take a good six months with lots of doctors appointments but he is a lovely pink colour and has energy, something he hasn't had for a long time.

I was in hospital for three days then came home. Being fit my body is healing fast. I was out of bed within 24 hours and walking. I would of come home after 48 hours but I had a little trouble with a little allergic reaction to the dressings. Nothing big, just a bit of itching. I'm on daily paracetamol with occasionally a couple of ibuprofen, I was off opiates from 36 hours.

I am so pleased that I worked on my core before my op as I am using the surrounding muscles to allow me to do a little more stuff. I can't lift more than 4kg and I am slow. Oh so very slow. My speed walking pace before was 9:45 per km. I started back at 35:45 per km for my first walk and I only managed 370 m. But I'm happy with that as it was only 5 days after surgery. I am going for daily little walks. Before the op I had told myself I would like to be walking 2km by the end of week 2. I know now that was totally unrealistic and it's going to take me a bit longer. I'm at 2 weeks on Thursday and I haven't even managed 1km yet. If you know anyone who wants to start walking from scratch we have a little group starting on the NHS S&F and walking for health forums.

I was in surgery for nearly six hours, I have three scars with the longest being around 12cm. They went from the front to the back to get the kidney so right through my stomach muscles. so it's going to take my body time to heal and right now I'm ok with that, I am sure there will be frustrating times in the next 12 weeks as I progress but I'm looking forward to starting the C25k program in around June if possible as I have a 5km fun run event booked for the 20th August. I'm doing the Decathlon free Surrey quays event. I am sure I will be not going for a PB, but you just have to have a plan haven't you?πŸ˜€.

I cannot thank Poppypug and Ju-Ju enough for all their help and support over this, you guys are the best.❀.

Hope everyone doing well and as always wishing you health and happiness.

Rfc x.

Thank you Ali, I've missed my events so much. That was my last event last year, it's a really soft one.

You're back!

You're mobile! And Mr. Rfc is in the pink (literally). What totally brilliant news. I'm actually astounded at the speed of recovery, being fit certainly pays dividends. I know you must be itching to 'get back to normal' but please look after yourself and heap on the tlc. We've missed you millions! Much love, gentle hugs and so, so glad that everything went so smoothly xxxx

Thank you. Hehe no sitting around, the hospital had warned me there would be non of that. πŸ˜€, hospitals are not healthy places for well people. Going slower now home.

Welcome back - I thought of you often over the last few days. Didn't see any Morphium-induced posts, so I was wondering! Glad everything went well, but it seems like a big operation and please do take things slowly. Great to see you're in good spirits and Mr RFC is doing well! HURRAY🍾 (Oh, you're probably not allowed to drink that yet!)

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate in reply to JaySeeSkinny

Thank you. Weirdly enough we can if we want, but haven't, MrRfc transplant nurse told him to come home and raise a glass of bubbly and start living. Lovely instructions.

Oh my goodness..here you are and all going well...:) ( Everything crossed here )

I had to smile...the whole serious operation with all that goes with it, and you, so fit, and so wonderful...but the dressings gave you an itch :)

Brave girl.... already planning ahead...Healing vibes and gentle hugs to both of you :)

So glad to have you back in the fold :)

Thank you. Hehe that is so me. I have had two allergic reactions to dressings but 10 days after it was all dry and could be without a dressing so that helped.

Welcome back dear Rfc! You are doing just great. Terrific that Mr Rfc is nice and pink, and normal function...... absolutely brilliant!

Remember there is no rush now, you both need to take the time your body tells you it needs to get to full recovery. It will comeπŸ˜€πŸ’ͺ🏻

You should be very very proud of the gift you have made Rfc. I am very proud of you and you know that comes from the heart.

Please please everyone, think about signing up to be an organ donor if you are not already. The question to ask yourself is: if you needed a donated organ in order to stay alive, would you accept one? If the answer is yes you would accept one, then you should also be prepared to be a donor when you no longer need your organs.

Jacs thank you so much for your support. It has meant so much to me and MrRfc to hear the wonderful recovery your daughter has made, it gave us hope in som very down days and really made such a difference.

That's great news RFC. We've missed you too. Your powers of recovery are brilliant and it proves all that exercise has clearly paid off when you need the benefits the most.

I sympathise about the allergy to the dressings. I'm the same and the itching is dire, but I'm sure you're in very good hands and they've given you alternatives.

You know your body so will know what to do. The walking and running tracks will be here when you're ready.

Wishing you and Mr RFC all the best and sending you a big soft hug xxx

Thank you. The itchiness is dire isn't it. I found out afterwards I could of taken an antihistamine. I have no option but slow and steady. πŸ˜€.

Ah now there's a word - "motivation" - for me that's a bit short on supply! Lots of determination, but it's that missing motivation that makes your mind decide that you aren't going to stop (again!). Never mind, because with determination maybe I'll get some motivation back .....

poppypug and ju-ju- have kept things running beautifully smoothly (and we've behaved, honest) but oh we did miss you.

So good to see you back here! Glad it all went to plan - other than the itching! - and great to hear you're both on the mend.

I'm glad you've jettisoned your targets for walking right now - just take it gently and build up gradually. (Remind me again what OldFloss's line is... Slow and something or other... ;) )

Thank you. I have to move daily as for a few weeks I'm still high risk for DVT and chest infections so it is a fine balance. Luckily the pain keeps me slow which means I'm less likely to overdo it.

Phew, but all sounds good to me so very well done to you! I can't believe how quickly you are recovering, it just goes to show that being body prepared goes a long way to helping...

Pink is the best colour, when I was banana yellow it was the worst look ever I'm sure, though I don't actually remember it!

Keep your recovery slow and steady and don't wrap Mr up in cotton wool for too long, sounds like the signs are already positive. I'm very proud of you, xx

Thank you. The body is an amazing thing, I agree about pinkness, they wheeled his bed into my ward before they took him to his own and he was already a lovely pink colour. Hehe MrRfc is doing the housework and cooking as I'm a little worse than him, which was to be expected. complete role reversal. πŸ˜€.
