So I have no money to get running essentials so making good with what I have to start my run Monday w1- r1 nervous.

I have just looked on line at sportsdirect and can get a running tee, socks and leggings for £2i.49 and shoezone trainers for 9.99 so £30 is quite cheap for running tbh. save save save is now my motto

Best wishes...But must warn you... I quickly became addicted.....And spent.....Very happily and willingly.....A previously unthinkable sum on shoes to run in.....And I'm not one bit sorry about it either :)

That's why i checked must go section on sports direct page and knew trainers were cheap at shoezone. Bring on week 1 run 1

You can pick up lots of running gear cheap (Lidl have a announced a sale next Thursday, for example) but decent shoes are a must. Cheap trainers not designed for absorbing the impact of running can lead to injury.

You don't have to spend a fortune and the following websites offer good prices on year or two old models on good quality shoes if you know your requirements.

sportsshoes.com/

mandmdirect.com/

I am a bloke but I am sure some of the ladies would also offer advice on support for the (ahem!) chest area.

Don't spend money on tops or joggers😶 if you want, or have, £30 to spare spend it on shoes 👠 ( not that type 😉 )

Any old leggings/ comfy trousers are fine to start,as are any old tee shirts, fleeces, hoodies😀

I think running socks probably become useful further down the line and ( personally) ive managed without a sports bra up until now😁

Slow and steady is the mantra, good luck 👍

i have over head support bra but outta avon if that is any good

That will be fine, just put on some leggings, a tee shirt and hoodie . Plug yourself into Laura ( download the podcast! It's great) get any old trainers on and get out there!😀

Good luck👍

Already got week 1 cto5k and strength and flex downloaded doing it weekly so i don't have them jumbled on mp3 lol. I downloaded all 9 weeks the other day and ended up listening to week 3/4 i think lol

Just use whatever t-shirts and leggings/shorts/sweatpants you have kicking around. Shoes and sports bra are the only essentials.

You can pick up cheap running gear a bit at a time when you a bargain. To start with just wear old t shirts, Hoodies etc. You don't have to spend a fortune on shoes but get some designed for running in-you can get these cheap in sports direct or decathlon.

Echo what everyone else said, if you've got a limited budget use it for the best shoes you can get. I ran for about a week without a sports bra and then decided that was worth spending on too, got a really comfy one from Asda if that helps! Clothes don't matter so much although moving from tracksuit trousers to leggings made runninguch easier for me, the less flapping the better! Good luck :)

I too ran week 1 without a sports bra, then decided to find my old one from my gym days (7 or 8 years ago). I am a little larger now than I was then and ended up with a stitch when I ran, so splashed out on a new one yesterday. My run yesterday afternoon was so much more comfortable! Still using old trainers at the moment - living in the wilds of Norfolk shopping is not easy and shoes are one thing I will not buy on line - but a decent pair are next on the list - but also with a limited budget.

Hi,I recently acquired trainers and jogging bottoms from StartFitness.I trawled sites about a week before,I was concerned mostly with getting agood pair trainers;I ended-up paying £40 pound for both items and am happy after trying them on my first w1/r1.

The right shoes and the right bra are essentials. The rest of the gear is nice-to-have.

I've just bought a junlan sports bra from amazon for £5. The reviews of them all seemed ok so fingers crossed. Actually I bought 4 different styles for less than the price of one usually. I'll try remember to post on here once I've tried them out!

Lidl run sale next Thursday, and they will have shoes. We generally get a half size bigger than our normal shoes as your feet swell when you run. If you can try a pair on that would be good.

I got my first ones from sports-direct. Karrimor tempo. They are v comfy. Lidl ones will be cheaper but I can't comment on them as I gave not tried them myself.

Buy the minimum to start with. The dri-fit tops are good as they don't hold onto sweat 🙂 All cheap as chips 😀

In November last year, I started running in an old anorak, a pair of old leggings, an old T-shirt and a pair of running shoes I'd bought from Lidl a few years ago that I'd been using for decorating! It wasn't until I'd graduated that I finally bought myself a decent pair of running shoes.

The running shoes are the most important. I'd spend more on them than anything else, if I were you.

Second what everyone has said - any leggins and T-shirt will do, there is no need to invest to those to start with. But decent shoes help a lot. I run in minimalist/barefoot only so they don't come cheap but it's the best investment. And bra depends on your chest size really - I started wearing VS sport bra that I wear for non-cardio classes and it was no good for running, I felt like couldn't breathe and ended up with stretch marks on my chest after few runs. I ended up getting a sport bra from Fabletics and it's perfect (if you sign up to Fabletics, it will give you 50% off for first order, but you have to use in within an hour - don't buy anything, just leave the website - in couple of days they e-mail you 70% off offer :) Don't forget to then cancel your membership as otherwise they take your money monthly afterwards)

Not having a sports bra to hand yesterday (long story) I wore two bras at once! Did the job. :)

I started running in cheap shoes because I didn't know about proper running shoes, and got injured very quickly, but some people seem to get away with it. I agree with Dunder, look online, you can probpbly find good shoes for the same price as your SD cheapies.

just it says on sd from £13 but when i finally click on size etc they r £24

ebay have cheap running tops on there so might be worth a look. I didn't bother with a decent sports bra till it came to Week 5 and the runs get longer. The first couple of weeks I was in top and leggings I got for £4 in Primark with my old anorak over it plus Asda running shoes I got in the sale for £10. Didn't want to spend out until I knew if it was for me. Now I look in the sales x

Decathlon is also worth considering, since trainers are very competitively priced, as are leggings and tops
