Carb Loading?

Yesterday I ate quite a lot of crisps late on in the afternoon. So when it came time to eat my dinner I wasn't hungry and thought, "I'll get it later".

Anyway, I forgot that I hadn't had my meal and when I got peckish later on in the evening I had... more crisps!

(Do as I say and not as I do, children).

Anyway, this morning was my day for doing my "long run" for the week. As I was running, and getting on very well, I was reflecting that proper runners do "carb loading" the night before a race and that I had accidentally carb loaded! Probably crisps are not the recommended way of doing that though. Nor will having one's fruit in the form of red wine be recommended either I suppose... :)

Haha. Actually I don't think I've ever tasted pork scratchings!

Sounds like you've been loading both carbs and fat. Now you just need a nice juicy steak and suddenly it will count as a beautifully balanced diet ;-)

Yum. A steak would be lovely.

Fortunately, I think I have put myself off crisps altogether by eating too many on the one day so I'll not be repeating that!

At least not for the next 24 hours ;-)

I'd love to know what you mean by "quite a lot of crisps" 🙂

Crisps are my weakness and I can devour a packet in record time *so my husband tells me*. But who cares? We can run it off 😊

One of the best bits of running! We can eat a bit more and get away with it. :)

Yes, crisps and cheese have always been my downfall. I don't have a sweet tooth and wouldn't care if I never had another cake. But if you said I could have no more cheese I would be devastated!

As to what I mean by "quite a lot" I'm saying nothing... :)

Eating crisps (or pork scratchings) the night before a long run or race isn't as detrimental as you may think, since the salt contained helps to ensure that electrolyte levels remain balanced for longer the next day. Having participated in half-marathons in years gone by, ready salted crisps the night before were my flavour of choice.

As for post-race nutrition, it's always been the biggest burger and largest portion of fries that Burger King sell.
