The difficult second Parkrun

Musicians talk about the difficult second album after the surprise success of the first, I'm feeling the same about my second Parkrun. The first one was great, once I'd got over the nerves of doing something new, but my expectations were low - just get to the finish even if you have to walk a bit of it. For the second one though, well, last week I ran it all, and in a good time for my age range and being first time and all; now I have to repeat that achievement (doubts creep in), not only that but also go quicker (because I know I kept quite a lot in reserve during the first run).

Thank you, dear readers, just writing that down exorcises the demons and stiffens my resolve. Time to get myself ready then go out and run - because it was *fun* last week. I'll keep in my mind that a few weeks ago I couldn't imagine doing a Parkrun and try to keep a cap on my expectations - just to finish is enough!

As Bob Hoskins said "It's good to tawk."

Who says you have to be quicker? All you have to do is go out and enjoy yourself! :)

You're definitely going to have faster parkruns and you are probably going to have slower ones as well. Nothing wrong with that. For me running is not about self-optimisation but finally doing something good for me. Sounds like you're doing just that! Have fun! :)

Good. Let us know how you got on. My parkrun was cancelled but I was marshalling not running.

Well, that didn't go well. Lesson learned, don't eat breakfast half an hour before running :o Oh well, next time. Only that won't be until April as I'm out of the country for the whole of March. Yes, I'm packing my running shoes.

It's often a case of learning lessons... Well done for having a go and getting out there.

But at least you did it ! Well done on going out for your second park run - I still haven't got the nerve to do my first!

Bob Hoskins, shame he's dead! Parkrun and running in general is not all about PBs, enjoy it! as long as you can run at a pace that's comfortable for you, stop beating yourself up over it!😊
