W7R2 - Laura, the traffic and gremlins were so loud I could hardly hear you

The gremlins brought in reinforcements today. I was going to go out before lunch but was persuaded I felt so hungry I had to eat first. So I ate a sandwich and went back to my homework. My incomprehensible homework. I spent an hour pondering a very small grammar conundrum before the penny finally dropped and then felt instantly foolish at not having understood it earlier. Now just a short 'story' to write - but Laura was tapping her foot.

A couple of coffees later, it was raining, the clouds looking darker by the minute. To be fair, the gremlins pointed out that the homework and the run were equally unappealing. So Laura got the casting vote.

My legs still felt tired from Monday, so I wasn't expecting miracles, and wasn't disappointed. Brisk walking. For the first time it felt like I was walking the wrong way up an escalator - the legs were moving but my walk seemed so slow. The traffic was noisy and I felt sure I must have missed Laura telling me it was time to run, so after what seemed a very long time I started a tentative jog. A 100 yards later she whispered in my ear it was nearly time to start followed by several other words of encouragement which were all but drowned out by a passing tipper truck and bus.

I'd like to report I had a fantastic run - in reality the highlights were running for a few minutes in the sunshine whilst it poured down, and being waved at by a man driving an ice cream van. Laura told me I could speed up for the last minute if I wanted to - I have no idea whether I did or not as I was busy focussing on one leg in front of the other, but I did manage an extra 20 seconds as white van man stopped and cheerfully waved me across the busy road I had come to. It felt rude to reward his kindness by walking so I waved a thank you back and kept up a slow jog until he was out of sight.

W7R3 on Friday. The gremlins are already rubbing their hands together and smiling.

Brilliant post! Don't worry about those gremlins. You just bat them out the way and us lot running along with you will sweep them into the gutter!

There is one thing worse than missing Laura telling you when to *start* running. Ask me, I know.
