How to wear erm..tights?

Ok my running machine is in my utility room, my utility room is not finished yet & freezing cold, so I bought some Nike dri fit tights & a long sleeve top, also dri fit to wick away the sweat as I sweat buckets!

However my question is, how do you wear these things? I'm a boxer short wearer, but read cotton absorbs the sweat making salt = chafing? So is commando the way?!

Quite embarrassing but I'm actually pretty sore in the groin area sometimes, after a run so I figure the cotton boxers are not helping there?

Tights, no underwear and running shorts on top for modesty ? (that's what my brother wears and he's been running for years)

I go commando when wearing leggings, with shorts over the top.

However, to prevent chafing, invest in a stick of BodyGlide (or similar silicon based skin barrier), applying it to areas that are prone to irritation.

As I land mid/forefoot, the balls of my feet can be susceptible to blistering when covering longer distances, so I'll apply it liberally to the soles before heading out. It's also great for preventing runner's nipple, too.

So, shorts over the top even though these are "proper" Nike running tights/leggings? Why do people do that?

modesty must be the answer... maybe runners have seen to many sportsmens bulges... uk.pinterest.com/pin/127437...

Nah. Lots of men in my neck of the woods stick to the tights. Shorts only if you like.

I can't speak for others, but it's largely due to modesty and layering up when running in colder conditions.

Question from a woman here..... do men not need a little support down under when running? 😮🙄😩

MotherPip profile image

I think the running tight must help with that as they'll keep everything pretty snug... I guess 🙄

True support helps but not necessary - is a good feeling to let it swing free sometimes!!

I just wear tights personally and occasionally shorts on top if they dont have an inner

I think it depends upon your own personal feelings. I had this debate on the group, either here or FB I can't remember now, and the conclusion was commando. From a modesty perspective my running shirt deals with that also as it is cold not not sure it is that much of a problem anyway if you take my meaning :-)

Ok, well modesty is out the window as I'm out of sight in my utility room we're I sometimes run with just boxers on if my other gear is in the wash, so that's not a problem!

I'm trying commando on Monday!

Try the body glide too, available on amazon. I use it for new shoes (not running shoes, they are always bought sized not to rub)!

I know cyclists with their padded shirts recommend commando. I have gone commando in my padded cycling tights, and it was fine, but I did worry about what outlines folk might see .

I bought some "Butt Shield" at the Bike Show at the NEC and I love it. It's from America but is stocked in the UK and I use it in the groin region and sometimes under my bellyvflab (excuse the image this breakfast time 😦)

I love it. .It's a silicone based roll on...Odourless, doesn't stain, stays in all day and washed off with warm water and soap. If you cycle you can also roll it in to the padding in your pants ☺

Have to say this thread is conjuring up some 'interesting' images! Having a good old chuckle here.

Lauracorin never heard of brain bleach but yeah after those images from MotherPip I need some too!

Bigjimknickers I hope you get you're glide right, could end up with a nasty accident if you smear it in the wrong place!

Or good, old Vaseline. I'm a cheapskate. It works on chafing very well 😊

Please please please, please if you decide to go commando underneath the running tights either wear shorts over the top or NEVER EVER EVER stop and bend down even if your shoe laces are undone. I have forever etched on the inside of my eyelids the sight of a runner who did just that in front of me and his running tights turned from black to see-through as they stretched ...................... . Bleurghhhhhhhh.

I tried them Monday, have to say I wasn't impressed! They itched, they rubbed, they rolled down. I've now bought body glide & I'll try them again tonight.

I'll post a pic...
