W5R3 "Mind over matter!"

Are you kidding me? I ran 20 minutes.

I don't know what's gone into me.

.

Last month I was coughing, wheezing, sneezing and sniffling, all of this during the runs itself.

I was afraid of what would happen today. Thanks to you guys, I went out there.

.

Sure my legs turned into a bag of lead. Sure my lungs burn like they have been placed on a grill. Sure my mouth dried up and my tongue sticks out even after half hour.

Yet there is something at the end that was addictive. Hard to describe!

.

W5R3 is definitely mind over matter as McFitty has put it. It took me a lot of effort to not stop.

. At some point I just closed my eyes and started thinking about all those years of guilt due to not exercising. I kept going.

. I started thinking of all those cigarettes I had smoked. I kept going.

. I started thinking of all those beers I had. I kept going.

. I started thinking of people who love and care. I kept going.

. I simply cannot give up. I kept going.

.

Man it was tough. It would have been even more painful to have just given up.

.

.

People thinking about W5R3, remember, it's mind over matter!

I remember my surprise when I did it. I think it's the most intimidating prospect of the whole programme.

I think it's the breakthrough for most of us

Well done

Brilliant..!! Well done, I remember when I did my 1st 20 mins. It's amazing to see what you have achieved in a matter of weeks. Not long now and the graduate badge will be next to your name :-) .

p.s. Are you in East London by any chance?

Well done - great post. The first time I heard Laura say run for 20 minutes I was convinced that I had accidentally missed out some sessions so spent ages messing with my ipod until I had to accept that it was really what I was supposed to do !!

Did my week 5, run 3 tonight and completed it.

Read this post this morning and knew I would be using very similar self talk - thanks for the inspiration nchunc.

Can hardly believe that I have run for a continuous 20 minutes without having assistance from a paramedic with an oxygen tank!

Congratulations on a great achievement. I was thinking of you yesterday and wanted to post a message of encouragement but the gremlins intervened and I couldn't access the internet all day. So now Week 6 beckons. Who'd have thought it at the beginning of January!

nchunc profile image

Thank you!

.

Even last week it was a distant dream. Week 6 now beckons indeed.

.

It eases back a little for the first two runs and presses on from W6R3. Fingers crossed!

Awesome! And very inspiring to so one who's looking at that space in the diary for next Friday that says, "20 minute run"...
