Slow recovery/gloating gremlin/advice please...

Morning all, Happy Sunday. Well the dreaded lurgy shoes little sign of improving, despite me being very good and resting up., Staying warm, drinking plenty of fluids blah blah.

Stan is gloating and being a bit annoying...

The advice needed or what I am wondering is regarding the programme. I've not run since Thursday, I was due a run this weekend (W2R3) which I am skipping, and I doubt I'll have recovered sufficiently for the next planned session...So when I eventually do restart, should I start with W2R3 or restart the week, restart the whole thing...Or call it run 3 and if it's a struggle redesignate it as week 1.?

Did that make sense? I know what I mean. Stan made me have a negative thought just there...He said maybe I should just quit as I'll never do it. With my knees I know I might not manage it all but I'm not giving up for the sake of a horrid cold....Or negative thoughts...

Back to resting again now... Hope everyone has a good day running out resting

You waffle all you want! Do not worry. If you're feeling nervous, re-run your last run and then move on. Seems like Stan is on your case. Give him a swift kick in the Y-fronts! You will be fine. Relax and recover. Big hugs :)

Oh no, sorry to hear your still not right. I'm no expert as you know but I would say start where you left off and if you struggle with it do that week again. I guess your body will tell you if it's too much.

You do right not to give up and you sound as though your determined. I hope that you feel better very soon and if it takes a little while longer there is nothing to stop you starting from the beginning of week two or even doing your first day back as a tester run. Hope that makes sense. 👍👍

Hope you feel better soon, and no, don't stop MotherPip !!!

This is my second attempt to graduate, as my body struggled last year, but once you get a little further you won't want to stop anyway 😊

Give yourself time to get well, I started feeling unwell yesterday and woke up this morning feeling really awful.

I will carry on with W6 when I feel human agai but I know if I try too early I won't make it.

And don't listen to Stan 😉!!!

Slap Stan!!!! Tie him to a chair and throw stuff at him.... he is a pain!!!

Don't even think of quitting...you are feeling low, you are unwell and that is why it all seems so hard. Many of us had the dreaded lurginess at the start of 2016! I called it the Bronchitisaurus... like a huge dinosaur treading on us all!!!:)

Heal first, lots of rest and warm drinks etc etc.. Plan how you are going to re start...Just take that last run and repeat it, as slowly as you like.. your recovery run :) Out there, testing the legs and just moving along slowly and steadily! :)

Remember..."You can be your own best friend or your own worst enemy... Choose wisely!"

Personally I'd keep to Laura's advice on the podcasts, and only move on once you've completed the run three times in a week. But if you find it reasonably comfortable when you do it next, maybe move on to week 3. See how you feel. :)

Just listen to your body once you're feeling better. If you manage the run, then it counts and you can move on. Mind you, if you don't feel happy about moving on repeat the run. There are no "laws", except the ones dictated by your body.

Get well soon - there are so many lurgies going around.

Firstly let's give Stan a good telling off. He has no right to be in your head right now as your doing the best thing for yourself and resting to get rid of this horrible lurgy.

Restart at the week before and see how you feel. Even the most seasoned runner will feel the first run back after a break through illness. I would say the most important thing is to keep your confidence high right now so if that means starting again do it, it's not a step back but a step in the right direction on a journey that doesn't have a time scale so give yourself whatever you need. Speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear that the lurgy has got hold of you MotherPip 😯.

I had a cough/cold that lasted ages in December, and all you can do is rest... I agree that WHEN you are better go out and do a week 2 run. Take it steady and if it felt good and you want to call it R3 thats fine..if you want to consolidate, then call it R2 take a rest day and do R3.

This is your journey and you know yourself best, there is no hurry to push through the program. You will get there as so many of us have in your own time. 😊

Laura says to move on when you have successfully completed the run 3 times.

I too have the lurgy, complicated by underlying health issues. Haven't run since Christmas Day. When I get out again to run I shall just be doing a gentle 30 minutes (at the moment the walking is enough of a challenge and a bit wobbly.... not helped by bloomin' dog and bloomin' pheasant who would not just sit tight in a tree and shut up causing an outing to be longer than planned). I see no reason why your next run, assuming you are ready to run at all, shouldn't be W2R3... and W2R3 again until you crack it (but I'd bet that you'll crack it first time) The 'week' thing can be a bit misleading, especially if you have any hiccups along the way.

I have to say that if I had followed some of the suggestions here about going backwards at a similar stage in the programme when I had to have a break due to ill health might have seen me never graduate or get beyond Week 1 as that was my hardest week (I remain slightly scared of Week 1!). I am tremendously grateful to those who encouraged me just to get back on the horse (or rather, the feet) in the same place. That's for the programme... if you're beyond that then I'd always start back at 30 minutes gentle run (and of course, be willing to shorten that)

Oldfloss makes a really good point about the impact of a bug on mood... in a way it is a positive sign that you are in the convalescent stage but just don't believe the thoughts! It is especially hard at the beginning of a year when everyone else is roaring ahead with their resolutions, or seems to be. But you'll get there... those who succeed with this programme and get fit and keep fit with regular running are not those who do not experience setbacks, or who are terribly gung-ho about the whole thing, but those who know the gremlins are all just yadda-yadda-yadda.

The bug / lurggy that's around at the moment appears to be taking about 4 weeks to completely recover from , so don't beat yourself up . It's a nasty flu type bug and even the queen has succumbed!

So carry on with your fluids , run when you feel like it , and if anyone is entitled to a flu jab have it

Thanks everyone. I know I will get out there again , just can't guess When...And will wait till I'm ready. I guess I'll try where I left off..In week 2... So will do next on e as a run 3 but will do another run 3 if need be before I progress into week 3
