...are actually brilliant when it's frosty. I've been out the last few days when the pavements and roads have been threatening to pitch me onto my backside with every stride, but found a path which runs up the side of my housing estate that is sheltered by trees (so doesn't get *quite* so cold) and has a terribly rough and eroded surface (so what ice there is forms in the cracks). Result - I only skid over when I get to the smooth tarmac at the end.

Oh gawd take care. I slipped last week on the very icy pavement and I was only walking. I had set out to run but it was so bad that I had to just walk it

The least icy bit was the narrow footpath, enclosed by high hedges on both sides, but the rest was like a skid pan

I fell yesterday whilst out running but it wasn't icy! Typical innit!

I wear yak trax things over my running shoes. They are the thing to get but even then you have to take care and go very steadily

Ironically, it was tripping on an uneven pavement yesterday that hurt me! But yes, badly maintained tarmac is a blessing for running on! :)

The oaths in our town are reasonable but I mostly love trail running in the summer - skipping over tree roots, avoiding dips in the ground. It is just too dark and now I work, I run in the dark with my headtorch and I like the mental challenge of hopping up a kerb, skipping over a drain and watching for uneven ground and holes. I see it as urban trail running! I have had three tumbles but so far, no serious damage, so the ground keeps it like an adventure. Looking forward to a long run in the countryside tomorrow - and the frost will ensure my trainers will be spotless when I get home!!
