Some friends on this forum will know that my 28 yr old daughter had a kidney transplant late October. This was in response to a rare disease she was suddenly diagnosed with when she was 10.
Since the operation she has continued to be stoic, and has worked hard to regain strength and stamina, walking further everyday, and then walking faster too and generally getting back to a fuller life!
After checking with her wonderful NHS clinical experts, today she asked if I would join her on her next stage of the recovery..........Moving into running using C25k! An invitation there was no way I could refuse!
So in the low bright winter sun, in fresh sparkly conditions, we went to a local recreation field where I knew the surrounding paths are gravel, there was therefore not a sign of ice under foot. As I had done a parkrun yesterday I used my run for recovery, very slow very steady. When my girly ran I ran, when she walked I walked, constantly passing on the pathways on the sunny sides of the fields. We both had enormous smiles on our faces through out, and lots of high fives between us!
My darling daughter managed to cover 4.5k including the warm up/down walks, but slow and steady throughout. The first running since her op and indeed a long while before that due to her condition leaving her feeling exhausted most of the time. Tomorrow she goes back to London and continues to heal and recover further until she can go back to her beloved teaching role, hopefully in the not too distant future. I think this programme will help if she continues slow and steady.

She's a lucky girl to have a mum like you. Running with your offspring is a real privilege. Kiddo asked if he could come with me half-way through C25K, and we sign up for 10k's together (he is already eating and waiting for me when I come over the finishing line). Keep us posted on her running progress!

As an ex-renal / haemodiaylsys nurse, I know exactly what your daughter has gone through and what an achievement this is. A day to remember for you all. What an inspirational girl and I can hear how proud you are in your post.

Bless you Jacs thank you. In my 15 years, I have met some truly inspirational people and their families. I still have lots of nurse friends in our field, so I love to hear of people's post transplant success. I wish your daughter continued success in her goals. Just wonderful. That's made me smile.
Thanks pops! The hospital are encouraging her to consider entering the transplant games going forward, gymnastics is her loved sport but she has needed to move to coaching over recent times, and her consultant is not really keen on her performing gymnastics going forward. But there are losts of sports included in the games if she decided to go for it. At the moment recovery is the priority 😀👍🏼

Having lost my husband's aunt last year at 80 several decades later than would have been the case were it not for a kidney transplant (and knowing that he has a sister and niece who may need them in the future), I know this is a big deal.
It is so lovely that she wanted to share this special run with you - and utterly amazing how fast she went (she's faster than me)
She is faster than me too, but has long legs and is half my age😀 When she walks she is now back to faster than me for the same reason. I am the short a... in the family so im stuck with it, hey ho 😂

Such good news Millsie-J . I could just imagine the two of you sharing that run and felt your joy and relief as a mother of such a precious daughter come shining through. I hope she continues to flourish and you enjoy many more such moments.
