Breathing helps hill running!

Hope all you C25K'rs are doing well. I still remember battling through each week and wondering if I would ever ENJOY running! Around a year after graduation, I can say, yes, it is fun! One thing I have noticed when approaching a hill is that when I start breathing more deeply and continue this as I run up the hill, it gives me a great boost. Really helps me especially on a long run - keep it up, running is a real haven to me and I look forward to every run

Thanks for the tip

I'll try that. Hills are hard and I am surrounded by them where I live.

They are sneaky things these hills, and they appear from nowhere sometimes :)

I have discovered this too JoolieB1 ! Only recently though...

As you know from my past posts.. lots of inclines around me, and a hill that leads to home. A guy who runs also, and lives in my Close, told me, he finds the last run up the hill, so exhilarating and a boost, he said he takes deep breaths and just does it with flair!

I didn't really believe him, until this week, but, you are both right...good deep breathing and go for it !

Thanks for that sweetie x

The answer to hills for me - is to NOT tackle them by slowly plodding up them!! I ATTACK them in short sharp fast bursts - I run at them for as far and as fast as I can - then I walk until I recover and do it all over again. Pretty soon I am at the top!! :)

I deal with them by keeping the same pace but shortening my stride. Will try the deep breathing too next time + every bit helps :)

I'll try it next time too, thanks Joolie. I don't think I ever give any thought to my breathing, I just expect my body to take what it needs, maybe it doesn't.
