So this is my first post here, taking my first step into what I hope will be a new change in my life.

I've read some of the graduates stories, and I must say they are truly inspirational!

I have had a tough few months, laid off work, broke up with my partner of 15 years and now single mother to my 2 sons, aged 4 and 9.

I was always athletic when I was younger and more sprightly but as life got on being active fell by the wayside and the weight came on.

I have set myself some goals, some easier than others, but one of my main ones is to get to be 'me' again and I hope commencing on this C25K journey will be the first step in that direction.

So I have completed so far W1 R1 and 2.. will do R3 tomorrow. R1 was great, I felt good and once I completed it I felt tired but elated.. I had made the start! R2 though.. wow what a world of hurt that one was.. my feet hurt, my chest ached and my brain kept telling me stop, you can't do it. But I had made a promise to myself and kept going.

So I have got a friend to join me, even though they are in a different city we will text and call each other to motivate each other to continue.

So that's me.. aiming to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Welcome! And well done you:). Good choice of a programme 😀

Stick at it & in no time you'll be running serious blocks of time & being amazed that you are doing it.

( You'll soon find excuses to look at running gear!)

Haha thank you! I already am looking at running gear, my bank balance will not be thanking me.

Thank you. I like how you call it 'gremlins', I will have to keep in mind to continue to fight those gremlins!

Watch out for those pesky gremlins, they know every trick in the book...but... they just hate being ignored.. or better still squished as you run along!

Go you! After all the hard times I think you will find running a great blessing - not just the health benefits, endorphins and increased energy but also the time out from everything just to be you...

Thank you for your reply. Yes it is my hope that some 'me' time spent in this positive way will allow me to feel better and put more into other areas of my life :)

Well done for getting started. Hopefully you will find running is a help for de-stressing and helping you feel strong for coping with difficult times - it certainly helps me enormously. What a good idea to do it 'with' your friend.

Thank you for your kind words. I hope it helps with the distressing too! I am lucky to have someone willing to tag along :)

Running - it does a body good.....and a troubled mine, believe me.

Wishing you everything good, and while you might be running on your own you don't run alone 'round this way :)

Huge respect for getting the out there and beginning this programme. Your cyber family will always be running with you, as well as your friend, so you're never going to be alone. W1 almost complete, great news. Celebrate every run and post about them, so that we can congratulate you on your achievements. If it's a practice run, we can help to motivate you and as you are "aiming to put one foot in front of the other", I look forward to "seeing" you graduate 🎓 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻👏🏻👏🏻😀😀

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations for deciding to get into your trainers. C25K really is magic. In February 2015 I set out on those first lung-scorching runs. Yesterday I signed up for my first half-marathon. If I can do it, you will rock it. Keep us posted.

Thank you for the encouragement.. I will endeavour to continue and keep posting :)

Welcome AimtoRun ! Your name and post tell me that you are here for a reason and that is to focus on something for you after a difficult few months. Well, it may feel hard at times but you can so do this! I recently graduated and I'm now on the Bridge to 10K programme and it feels great. Good luck and look forward to reading your updates. Happy running :-)

Welcome to the C25K programme. For me the end is in sight now, but I can remember starting out and thinking it would be improbable that I could do this I had never run before (not even in my school days). The people in here are so supportive and coming into the forum to share your good runs or difficult ones is a good way of staying motivated. Good luck with becoming "you" again.

Welcome and well done for getting started! C25k is such a great programme. Following it is one of the best decisions you will ever make! Go slow (seriously, slow slow slow!), stretch, take your rest days religiously and listen to Laura and you'll be back to being you before you know it!

If you used to be active and athletic you are already starting from a better position than some of us who began having done nothing since school PE (and most of us hated that too!)! The program has helped a lot of people with difficulties in life - somehow running just has a magic which transcends life's problems. The forum folks definitely help too!

The forum is the best place on the internet - it's full of the most amazing, inspirational people on the internet. Please use the collective experiences of everyone here for advice, encouragement and motivation and let us celebrate your successes with you. We will be with you every step of the way! :)

Welcome to the forum AimtoRun :)

Sorry to hear of the tough times you've had recently. As others have mentioned, this running lark can actually help lift your mood, so you've made a good decision already!

You have taken the hardest step by actually starting the C25K plan, so well done for that. No doubt you have read all about how to progress...slowly and steadily. You're not racing anyone, so easy does it and you'll be fine. The plan does work, trust us! ;)

Anyway, all the very best with the rest of your journey on the plan and please make sure you keep everyone updated with your progress. Thanks! :)

Well done - you've done the hardest part, which is getting started! This forum is brilliant - I'm now on Week 6 and they have supported me all the way so far :)

I found some other forumites who were at the same stage of the program as me, and we are supporting each other on here too- it's great to keep track of each other!

I've also got a friend doing it in another part of the country, and we check up on each other and support each other - our aim is that sometime we might run a 5K together :D

Well done - keep going :)
