Welcome to week 2 of the Xmas quest πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

How is everyone doing? Are you progressing towards your goals?

Please feel free to join if you've just graduated. Most of us find its a great way to keep, our motivation up.

I find that seeking goals for the next six weeks helps to keep me on track and focussed, and I have little challenges with rewards along the way that give me a boost and keeps the motivation up.

Make it personal to yourself and achievable but as with everything on here have fun with it and enjoy taking part.

What the quest is:-

The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises.

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So, if you wanted to join all you have to do is put:

I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put our longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run.

Good Luck everyone !

I am working at doing more interval sessions in the week and this week I hope to do 2 spinning sessions. My 10 minutes of core every day isnt going so well, so that will be this weeks' focus!

Only got one 10k in last week...on my one free day.

Weekend spent on a 300 mile round trip to take a friend to hospital - did involve a couple of good meals though!

4 more days at work then, at the moment nothing else (till March atm but hopefully that will change!)

Thanks Ju.

She's recently been diagnosed with colitis, but is currently low on iron so had to have a couple of infusions. Luckily there's a clinic on Sunday morning so she doesn't have to take time off work, but it's in Gloucester and she's in Evesham and doesn't drive. We're sharing duty with her parents.

I am planning to stretch and flex where I can whilst I am unable to run. Spend my non running time looking at other beautiful running routes near me and perhaps row, swim and cycle if it works!

Oh, Flossie22 , I missed that post. How long are you laid up for?

Flossie22 profile image
Flossie22Graduate in reply to tortoisegirl

Hopefully only another day or two. My fault entirely, ran 4 times including first week of B210K last week, didn't calculate properly my distance increase and overdid it. I am just a numpty! Thank you for asking tortoisegirl , much appreciated 😊 Glad to hear you're rehearsing for the choir. Well done on last week! Mega stuff! x

It's so easy to do, though. I hope it keeps improving. Yes, voice in fine fettle now! I'll be belting them out on Christmas Eve!

Cycling at gym is fine, doesn't hurt knee, so must be fine. On resistance 1, so no effort. Pain worse rather than better, though trying to PRICE when I can. Think it's going to take longer to get better than I had originally anticipated. Dr said it sounded crunchy, All I could think of was a chocolate bar πŸ˜‚ Also said my knees are as old as me. Gee thanks Doc! πŸ™„ Thank you for asking! x

Ouch... could you see a sports osteopath? Would a support help? Sounds like GP was rubbish!!!

Flossie22 profile image
Flossie22Graduate in reply to ju-ju-

The doc printed out the knee exercises from the NHS website which clearly states "do not do these if you are in any pain", maybe I'll buy a support thingy! x

Yay - 3 runs last week. 2 lots of 7k during the week and a 10.5k on Saturday following my HM training plan. The plan also did its magic thing and recalculated its estimated time for me based on what I've really been doing. This meant it extended its estimated time from a silly 2hrs25 to a far more realistic looking 2hrs55. (Actually I don't really believe that estimate either. I'll be glad to finish, thrilled to finish anywhere below 3hrs15 and anything starting with a 2 is a stretch goal as far as I'm concerned).

ju-ju-Graduate in reply to ajwyld

Well done, that sounds like great progress.. and I always think it's better to focus on a realistic comfortable goal than kill ourselves for something crazy!!!

Yeah, OK week... a couple of runs and would have been 3 but for not passing up the chance of a walk with the beloved yesterday. And I think I achieved 6 out of 7 days doing yoga although it doesn't seem to be happening first thing... which means I risk forgetting about it.

Nothing else but it was a busy and intense week.

Google is on her first day without medication today.

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to GoogleMe

I hope you have got on ok without the meds.... yoga sounds great and that is an awful lot of it, I bet that helps with everything else?

I hope Google has a good sesh today 😊 It's lovely out. I have the little pug who you wouldn't know was at the end of the he lead, but big Woll will be a force to be be reckoned with as per. Now I can run though I can keep going as long as he wants to 😊 He loves awful winter weather so we can keep going. Groan 😁

Had another go at Stepping Stones and found it much less rushed feeling. No parkrun yet because of working at that time on a Saturday - only one more Saturday working before Christmas though :-)

Came down with a cold so I only got one run in. But it was a Parkrun, so half marks for this week.

Flossie22 profile image

Parkrun must count for double marks, especially with or after a cold, so full marks in my book! runswithdogs

I managed three runs last week - a gentle 30 minute run, a Speed session and a stab at hill-training. To be honest, it was somewhere between a mild incline and a hill - but it was the best I can do around here! No parkrun, because I was at a Christmas choir day!

ju-ju- profile image

marco83 profile image

I managed to get back out there :) last week I took it easy with a reduced mileage, but in line with the idea of this challenge (18 miles). If everything goes as planned this week (in which I am travelling to Us for work, quite a lot of time up in the air) I hope I will get back above 20 miles.

so far so good :) let's see what come from now to Christmas

all the best

Hi all, well completed my second 10 miler yesterday, (last 'race' of the year πŸ˜„) resting most of this week, parkrun will be my 'recovery' run on Saturday, then I will be starting my strength and cross training next week - aiming for two sessions per week.

Well done all πŸ˜„

Please may I join the quest ju-ju- . My aim is to run at least twice a week, three if I can. Last week managed twice, but this week should manage 3 runs. I am still doing B210k but only doing the longer runs sporadically. Still only done Week 3 twice, and usually do a week 2 run as it fits my course better. As long as I do at least 30 mins twice a week I will be happy.

You are very welcome I will add you on... yes your goals sound good and doable 😎

Thanks for organising this JJ. I finished my wonderful 10k Asics plan yesterday, so just sorting out my next one. Was very tempted to go for a 10miler, but decided it would be much more sensible to do another10k plan first to consolidate before going on to 10miles. So that's me, starting out on a new 10k plan and hoping not to catch a cold: a tall order when I'm in a class full of sneezing coughing children but a girl can hope! xx

Gosh I hope you got on ok with a cold and everything? Respect for your job, I bet that's tough!!!

Eatcakeandrun profile image

Week 2 already! I managed 2/3 runs last week because I had a cold. But the long one was 14.5 k so getting towards my goal of 18k.

My biggest thing is the glute challenge- which I have managed to keep up even though some days were switched about. I have made a little chart which is on the fridge, and I cross off each day I complete.

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to Eatcakeandrun

Well done you that's fantastic!!!

So far, so good.

But I found the Stepping Stones and rest intervals of Speed too slow! I struggled with the beat, I never imagined saying that a few weeks ago.

I ran out of steam at 46 minutes of Bridge to 10K, week 3., although what I managed was a good distance (too fast maybe ? )

But I ran with my choice of music and that was the best of all, very comfortable .

I have today signed up to an Asics plan to get me to 5 miles. Rest day today, raring to go tomorrow .

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to RunaroundSue

Good plan, and I hope you got on ok?

RunaroundSue profile image
RunaroundSue in reply to ju-ju-

Well I have done the first week of 3km runs in my Asics plan. I wasn't able to run as slowly as instructed, but other than that it went ok. Off for a few days in Northumberland on Tuesday so I may not fit in a run, although I do expect to be battling against the winds as we do our usual bracing beach walks.

Hello folks, I am against the wall with a work deadline, so I've not been able to read everyone's update. I hope a blanket-issued hope you had a great one, will do.

My week was fine, I ran, stretched and strengthened as desired. I'll keep the same schedule for this week, as I am only just recovering my stamina in HR terms.

Two wrinkles: it was -6 this morning and I said uh uh. And I woke up with ANOTHER cold (my kids are killing me). So, another goal for the week is to conquer both colds. I will prevail.

Happy trails, runners!

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to parseraisin

I think everyone has had colds... and yes I ran in -6 this week, it was soooooo cold!!!! Well done you for prevailing!!!

Well I achieved the first goal in my quest last week when I finally managed to run 5k! And I was pleased with the time of 41m 45 secs given that 13 weeks ago I couldn't run for a bus let alone 5k! Well, I was pleased until I checked my local park run times - the slowest last week, not including the tail runner, was 39m 35 secs. Eeek! And double Eeek as I'm determined to do the Christmas Eve virtual park run and run in my santa hat along with Flossie22 and Pc59. And I also refuse to come last (that goddamn personal pride thingy!). So need to get down to it, run another 5k this week to prove that the first one wasn't a fluke, and get some go-faster shoes!

I did my first 10K for ages last week, (had a chest infection) it was blooming hard but I did it! I did feel it was a bit too much though so this week I'm taking a little step back, my intention is to do 3 seven KM runs. Well that WAS my intention, I did one of them yesterday and it was glorious, but now the weather looks set to scupper my plans! So icy! I'm happy with cold but ice is another thing altogether! Still, another 5 weeks should be enough to get me to my target 12....I want to see those chalk pits!

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to Curlygurly2

Well done, and I hope you are recovering from the chest infection, they really take the stuffing out of you xxxx

Curlygurly2 profile image
Curlygurly2Graduate in reply to ju-ju-

Thanks Ju-Ju, I feel okay but my running is suffering, can't manage faster than about 8 mins per KM...so frustrating.

Had a good run today ran for 43 minutes about 6 1/2K as part of plan to get to 45. Started run about 1/4 way down hill. Wanted to check state of pavement with leaves stuck in frost before launching myself downhill. Wasn't too bad . Decided to do 3 laps of lake instead of heading down canal with frosty lock inclines.

Most of trees round lake lost their leaves now so got some decent sunshine coming through. Set out about 10 am instead of usual 9am so Sun a bit higher in sky and peeking through the trees on my face. So felt good.

I wanted to see what my rough 5k time round 3 laps of lake (1.61 k or 1 mile per lap) was. It was 32 minutes. So if add about 100 or so metres to exit of park will say about 32 1/2 minutes as my current 5K.

I am planning to do local park run at Perry Hall park on 17th December. Sorry couldn't do Xmas Eve. Scrooge Boss not let me. Anyway not working Xmas Day ( Although it will probably eventually come that Xmas day becomes normal working day).

So have got my barcode and will find my "Bah Humbug hat" and hopefully someone on Park run will take some photos. If I get a time of 32 1/2 minutes or better that will be great ! At least get a realistic measure of what my 5K time is.

Still haphazard core exercises. Although I know that I have done some. When running feel like someone is tugging at my belly button !! Must be thanks to the planks !!
