I had decided to increase the number of times I go running from 3 times a week to 7 times a fortnight ie every other day. So rather than doing my first run of the week tomorrow, Monday, I went out this morning. Being a non working day I didn't have to go out as early as usual. Just early enough to have time to finish, shower, have breakfast and be on time for bell ringing.
As I walked up the lane, past the farm gates one of the collies came running out to herd me up the road nipping at my feet.
On the long incline up to the walled garden I had my first experience of the gremlins. They were telling me that I should stop running and just walk. I countered by telling them that I was in charge, that I could walk if I wanted to. But as I didn't I slowed down a bit and continued running. The gremlins left me alone
As I passed by the horse field two little Shetland ponies came charging down towards me from the top end. Their legs were going 19 to the dozen and their hooves were beating a tattoo. As they came hurtling towards the fence they wheeled away and went galloping back up the hill. I couldn't help but smile.

A nice and successful run! I did the 'every other day' schedule for a long while, then went to 'Sunday/Wednesday/Friday' and now wish I could go back to every other day, but work interferes with that
What a great run, well done. I am in two minds as to whether to go out every other day or do Sunday, Tuesday or Wednesday and Friday. I'll just have to see what works with my work schedule.
I do every other day too usually, except at the moment I'm working on getting my distance back up after a lurgy, so I'm doing one short/interval run, one 5k/middle distance and one long run after which I have 2 days off. It's great to mix it all up a bit!
How long is long. After reaching 10k I have cut right back on distance in an attempt to work on pace and am slowly building distance again. Another reason is that I run in the morning before work and itis difficult getting up too early these dark mornings.
I'm up to 8.5 again, I want to be able to do 12 soon, there's somewhere I want to see that's 6 KM away! There's no reason why you shouldn't work on speed and distance at the same time, but I know what you mean...I'm lucky to not have to get up early!
