Week 1 completed (again)

I had planned to do my third run of week 3 yesterday, but had woken at 4am feeling decidedly unwell and then spent the day throwing up at regular intervals. So what with stomach cramps and back ache, I wasn't able to get out of the bedroom, let alone get outside for a run.

But this morning, in a Nina Simone kind of mood, "It's a new dawn, it's a new day... and I'm feeling good." I decided to go for it.

So strapped into my uber supportive sports bra (to give maximum support to my newly reconstructed breasts) I set off. It wasn't long before the mist lifted and the park was absolutely radiant in it's autumn colours. I've upped the speed of my walking a little, and was also quite comfortable with the 8 one minute runs apart from the pain in my breast, but this didn't seem quite as bad as it did on previous two runs, although I still needed to keep my right hand clasped to the right side of my chest.

I was even treated to the sight of 2 beautiful woodpeckers.

At the end of the cool down walk I was really pleased to find that the total distance I covered was 5k in 31.17 minutes. My daughter doesn't believe I was walking most of the time, but I can only assume that since being unable to run (I'd previously completed week 8 runs about 3 weeks ago) my walking speed has improved. At last I'm feeling that being able to run the full distance is doable, even if it does take me longer to get there.

Feeling really upbeat. :-)

(Now to invest in some running gloves as it's starting to get chilly.)

Brilliant, go you. It sounds like a wonderful morning run if still a tad uncomfortable..( ouch).

Take it steady and keep building up slowly...well done. :)

I'm just wondering if, once the pain is more manageable, I will be able to fastback back to where I had got to before the op!

I am no expert, but as long as you keep the faith with our, slow and steady. mantra, why not?

Our bodies are generally so good at letting us know what is right and what is not. Just take your time and enjoy this slow detour, which is getting you back on your running path again :)

I also, failed to say, I think you are pretty awesome ... having the determination and strength to get out there. :)

Wow, I'm impressed you felt able to go back out today after being unwell, let alone after surgery! I think having a goal will help with your recovery, just make sure you listen to your body.

Well done... , I really hope that pain lets up for you soon so you can get back on your previous running form without having to think about your surgery, although it sounds like you're doing really well despite it! Best of luck to you.
