Newbie alert !!

46 yrs old. Just done Day 1 Week 5. Started 2016 at 13st 4lb, now at 11st 9 & aiming for 11st by the end of the year. Want to be able to run 1.5 miles in less than 11 minutes as well as completing a sponsored 5K at the end of October & a 10K in 2017.

C25k is a brilliant programme that will work in turning you into a runner, but you are setting the bar very high with the hope of running 1.5 miles in less than 11 minutes. I am sure it can be achieved and that this programme is the best way to start, but be prepared to be patient. Trying to chase such times too quickly can easily lead to injury. You may also be pushing the envelope to complete 5k by the end of October, while your 10k target next year is eminently doable.

C25k, in common with other beginners programmes, is more about building stamina than speed.......that will come in time. It is not a good idea to try to finish the plan quicker than running on alternate days as you need a rest day between runs, as a new runner, to give your body a chance to repair itself, otherwise the couch will claim you back.

Welcome to the forum.

The time is only something I want to be able to achieve in an ideal world .. it harks back to my RAF days when I was able to do it, but always just. It's just an aim, no more - I would be much happier being able to consistently run 3/4/5K for pure pleasure than beat any time target. Thank you for your input & taking the time for your response - it's much appreciated. Rob

We all have to bow to the passage of time and feats from our past are not always possible match again, but the psychological benefits of running and recapturing SOME of the vigour of youth are priceless.

Keep us posted with your progress.

Why is the fast time important?

First things first 😊

It's just a historical target I always struggled to achieve in my days in the RAF. As I have just replied above, it's a desire, not an absolute must :)

Good! What will be will be. Running is fun, and C25k in particular. I would have absolutely no target at this point other than to complete the run ahead of me.

Good luck with the rest of the programme. Take care ☺

I really have to hold myself back - I always do, but hate leaving a day in between. I just want to know if I can do Wk5Day3 !!
