My first time out running week 1

Well I decided I wanted to start running and C25K was a good way to start.

I was geared up in work all day then when I got home I thought of excuse after excuse not to go but I made myself go anyway.

Soooo glad I did!!! Laura was helpful and strangely I didn't feel as though I was actually on my own ha! The first two lots of 60 seconds were a mixture of me trying to remember my posture, breathing and feeling uptight. That soon went and I was happily getting on with it.

Being quite overwieght I have always been embarrassed about people seeing me running and everything jiggling so I ran along the canal path and found myself a good little route.

All in all a blinking good start. :)

Yes, absolutely! The first session is always the hardest. There are lots of posts here from folks embarrased about being seen in lycra, and the ninja-like stealth involved in not being seen, so don't worry we've all been there. Me too!

Just keep doing as Laura directs, take it slow, just breathe how you normally do, and you'll be fine. Going slow is the key to it all. Enjoy it as it should be fun. The program is fantastic and will make a runner out of you.

Have fun ☺

Well done! What a brilliant start! It's a great programme and we all love Laura :-) I felt embarrassed at first but that soon passes and now I pass all sorts of people who chat as I pass them - I know I look awful but I've actually stopped caring as people are so positive and encouraging :-)

I nearly cried at the prospect of donning lycra tights as I envisaged the sack of potatoes look. I got some good quality Nike running tights and was really pleased at the way they held everything in place and evened out my lumps and bumps.

That was 3 years ago in Sept but now I am much thinner thanks to running ☺

That's encouraging about the weight - I'm on on week 5 so a newbie but even though I am doing a lot more exercise now I haven't last any weight ( I know this isn't a weight loss programme). I am finding that my body shape is changing - only a bit but definitely a change. I am doing this mainly to improve fitness but it's nice to know that regular running can, over time, achieve weight loss.

If you start doing slow uphill runs you will shred your mid section, coupled with healthy eating obviously ☺ They also get you fitter and stronger. Slow plodding running is all that's needed to get you to the top. Walking breaks allowed of course. It's useful to chip away at the same hill so you can check your progress.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you had a great first run and a wonderful attitude!! :) The C25k programme is just amazing, following it is one of the best decisions you'll ever make. Go slow, listen to Laura, stretch, take your rest days and you'll soon be a runner!

The forum is one of the best places on the internet. I wouldn't have completed the programme without it. It's full of incredible, inspirational people so do post for advice, encouragement and to let everyone celebrate your successes with you!! :)
