Wk4 just completed - wk5 looks scary!

Hi all,

Been following your posts which are brilliant!! This is my first post as I approach wk5r1, planned for Monday, and feel in need of your encouragement.

Not particularly overweight but definitely not fit (lack of stamina especially) I've really enjoyed following Laura's podcasts and even like the cheesy musicπŸ˜€ So far I've completed the sessions in our back garden but feel wk5 with it's longer running times means I need to venture out into the big wide world - double scary!!

One question - are fitness trackers worth it? I've been looking at the Fitbit Charge HR but it would be so easy to make an expensive mistake.

Keep posting everyone - it makes such a difference to us newbies especially!

Pick a new route and get out of the garden. You'll love it, so much variety and interesting scenery. And week 5 is probably around when I had to start making my route longer.

As for fitness trackers I've had a Garmin Forerunner 10 for two years now and I love it.

Lots of people use garmins and love them, they are really popular but if you don't want that expense yet, why don't you map your route on gb.mapometer.com you won't get the same statistical breakdown but you will get an idea of how far you are running (not that you should worry about time or distance yet).

Good advice! :)

Yay, well done for your progress so far, and keep at it! The big wide world isn't that scary really, once you realise that no-one else even notices you're out there, running ;)

I don't have a special fitness tracker, but use Runkeeper on my phone. Sometimes it goes a bit mad and decides I've run to the next village and back in less than five mins, but it's simple enough to correct it on the computer. Mostly it's good enough - and (importantly) it's free! :) Turns out my phone also acts as a pedometer, and tracks my daily walking etc. which is a bonus.

Don't look ahead on the programme! Just put your earphones in and do what Laura says. Once you are outside in your running kit the gremlins have less chance. Week 5 does look really scary but believe me, we want to hear from you in a week's time so we can congratulate you!

Good luck!

Well done Shopgirl54 on finishing wk4, you'll be fine on wk5 sounds more scary then it is, stay relaxed and take it slow and steady.🐡

I use the Nike running app or tom tom runner watch (graduation prezzie)☺

Thanks all of you! I don't normally look ahead but a friend at work started the programme 4 weeks before me and freaked out a bit when the 20 min run was announced.

Thanks for the advice on the fitness trackers. I'll take a look at the freebie trackers before investing in anything else. Perhaps my hubby will buy me one when I 'Graduate'.πŸ™‚

The wide world is amazing...so much out there... focus on the now runs, not the next. If you follow the programme steadily you will be fine!!!

There will be loads of advice for your tech question..if you ask yatesco

nicely.. he is the gadget guru. :)

Don't worry about it, or even think about it! Just follow the instructions. I had a sleepless night before the first big run, and couldn't believe it when I got to the end still alive/breathing/upright. It will happen!

Alive and breathing will be good πŸ˜€

Good Luck ! You will come to love running outside I am sure :-)

I used to see what was coming up and used to scare myself thinking the same as you, but each run of each week lays the foundation for the next one and it is do-able , so please try not to worry xxx

Well done in getting this far, youre doing great, keep going ! :-) xxx

Crikey you must have a massive garden!!

Get out in to the big wide world - and don't think everyone is looking at you (like I did) just smile and say hello, they're probably wishing they could do it to.

Hi,

No not a big garden, just lots of running in circles. Daft I know. Why do we worry what others think? I know when I see people out running I'm thinking 'good for you' whatever level they're at. Far too hot this week (struggling to keep going) but next week I'll aim to be out there tooπŸ™‚

Well done you on getting this far. I'm halfway through week 7 and still running round my garden! I can't wait to get out in the big wide world but at the moment it feels safe, so I'm taking it one run at a time.

That's what's so good about this forum, there is always someone out there with the same worries as you! Good luck with each run and let us know when the big wide world welcomes youπŸ˜€

I've just finished week 5 and was worried about the big step up at the end of the week too. It turned out fine! I'd say if you can do week 4, put your trust in the programme and you'll amaze yourself. Good luck 😊
