I think they will vote to stay in too. My area seems to be pro exit. My son and I discussed it yesterday and he is pro Remain, as younger people seem to be. They have not known anything else but being in the EU mind you. I just hope people get out and vote. It ought to be a huge turnout but probably won't be.

Please, don't kick me out of the country... 😁

secan, I think you've been here long enough, your are now a part of the furniture!😁

secan profile image

Jokes aside, I feel a bit like a piece of furniture having no say in a matter that might have a huge impact on my life.

I would have understood if only British people had the right to vote for the referendum but the fact that immigrants from the Commonwealth, who are virtually unaffected by the outcome, can vote while EU migrants have to "wait and pray" is something that goes beyond my ability to understand...

Anyway, whatever your stance on this matter is, I do hope you'll vote today and you'll do it without having the "gremlins" (yes, there are also electoral gremlins 😜 ) whispering in your ear.

Today, in a way or another, you'll shape the future of an entire continent; good luck to us all.

I think a bit of dancing will be just the ticket, it's got to be more useful than the useless propaganda that's been about, all the tv rubbish, and all the stupid football ( not a fan - sorry - well not a fan of thugs who 'pretend' to be sports fans)

Thank goodness it's nearly over! - oh hang on, then the tennis starts and it'll continue raining for another fortnight.......

I'll just go for my runs - in my head I am sprinting.........😁

I would like our borders to be closed immediately.....just so the football thugs can't get back in...Polish workers no problem, English football hooligans no thanks !

I'd rather Hokey Cokey any day than listen to all the political rhetoric we've been subjected to just lately. I may just conga to the polling station too!

Registered to vote a long time ago, but they havn't sent me anything yet. I guess that will all arrive after the referendum now ^^

No prizes for guessing which way I would have voted. Never mind, if UK leaves then that will just force me to try to change nationality, I've been putting it off because I really hate forms and paperwork :(

I'm watching the results carefully Zev - I may be asking for dual nationality soon too...

go to your polling station, you may be on their list even if you have not received your card.

Can't wait for it to be all over! I'll be voting bright and early tomorrow. A tick for the in box.

Like a lot of other Brits living in other European countries (I hate that term "expat") I'll be interested to see what comes out of the vote tomorrow. Whatever the result, I'll be running it off in the vineyards.

Please, please stay. EU has plenty of flaws but we have to figure it out together. Danes are eurosceptic as well and we need you on board to change things for the better.

I'm another one who's heartily sick of the whole thing. AncientDad, the kids and I will be off to cast our votes bright and early tomorrow. There are too many crazies out there to cast ourselves adrift.

I've already been and voted today, have you heard of the 'use a pen' campaign? I went duly prepared with black biro in my pocket, no pencil x for me!

davelinks profile image
davelinksGraduate in reply to LonelyWalker

Think we know who you've gone for then..

While some may wonder whether pencil marks could be erased prior to the count taking place, another, infinitely more likely concern won out.

β€œIn the event of the ballot papers getting wet before the count, pencil marks will remain. Pen marks may not.”

I shall be voting tonight on the way to my weekly sin of a Curry and Beer with my 2 best mates. I leave to early for the morning vote but going by the reports I have heard there are some queues at some polling stations.

Think there is going to be more than the the last general election (65%) of the Island going to be voting. The Police one earlier this year I think there was only about 15% of the Island that voted (I did not as I had not seen or heard from anyone in the run up. I would say that over 80% of the UK population will be voting.

'Straw poles' at work gives the Out vote the lead. only found 1 person saying In, out of a dozen I speak to.

As far as I am concerned there is to much 'meddling' to allow it to continue as it is. It 'could' work but it needs people who want it to work and not just go there to get paid. Maybe our referendum will be the catalyst for change for the better.

I havnt lived in the UK since 2004 so in a way I'm happy that I am unable to vote, as I feel that I am no longer qualified to say what the UK should do. France is now home, so applying for French nationality makes perfect sense really. I just detest filling in forms and taking tests and stuff like that, so I've been putting it off. If I am accepted for French citizenship then I guess the result of the referendum becomes fairly academic for me. I just hope that Brexit doesnt cause widespread economic problems either for UK or the rest of europe. Not long to wait now anyway :)

I don't know who pushed the pen idea, but i did both pen and pencil to be sure! That doesn't reflect how I voted, just that i wanted to be counted for once!

But yes, I agree that this might be a catalyst for positive change of the EU we can all benefit from. Time will tell!

As a guest in your country, I respect your decision... but as a friend, I do believe it was a mistake. πŸ™

I hope for you I am wrong.

davelinks profile image
davelinksGraduate in reply to secan

Some pessimism there of course, and I am slightly anxious & also with some excitement what the future will bring, remember England fought 2 world wars before EU and what happened? Yes this little island! Do you really think you and other migrants will be slung out secan? I think that's very unlikely, (as per Chris Grayling's comment just now) just restrictions to any future entry.😊

secan profile image
secanGraduate in reply to davelinks

The world has changed a lot since WWII...

I'm not worried I will be slung out but I know for sure that my life will become much more complicated: will I need a visa to come back after visiting my family? Having worked and paid pensions contributes in two different countries, will I be able to claim my full pension now that the UK is not anymore in the single market? How much will it cost me? Will I have to go back to Italy if I want to vote for my representatives in the EU parliament? Etc.

More importantly, is a country where the majority of the population seems to agree with the arguments put forward by the leave campaign a place where I feel comfortable to live?

I repeat, I respect your decision but the result gave me a lot to think about and some serious decision to take.

I agree with you on all of this Secan, I have the same "problems" but from the other side - I'm a Brit that lives in UK and France half and half. At the moment I don't feel at home or welcome in either place.

I am absolutely gutted by the result Secan.☹️ Here in Surrey, I think I was in a "remain" bubble and at work on Friday there was a real sense of shock and sadness, this feels like such a backwards and non-inclusive step. Please remember that many of us wanted to remain in the EU. I for one, feel that I don't know the country I thought I loved, anymore. ☹️

secan profile image
secanGraduate in reply to Sandraj39

I know there are a lot of British people who are surprised and sad for the result; after all it was a close one, demonstrating that there are many people on the remain side too.

It is a difficult situation, not only for EU migrants but for British people too. Anyway, what is done is done; now it is time to work as hard and seriously as possible to make it work. Good luck to us all.

davelinks profile image

I know the world has changed! am trying to put a positive spin on the situation. For your information I didn't want to leave, and you need to discuss your issues with the professionals such as your local MP's, as I've done..

I am saddened by the result and being in one of the few parts of England that voted remain it makes me even sadder. Many people are now regretting the leave vote.

I am also shocked the way people are treating those who voted leave, as if they are all racists or stupid. People had their reasons for voting way they did, now we just have to live with the consequences good orbad and pull together.

I agree we have to find a way through all this that somehow pulls us together. Sadly, I think this may take some time 😯.
