I got heckled 😱

I have been overwhelmed by the dark spectre of depression for the past couple of weeks and it has been extremely hard to get out of the door. I have been able to get out a few times but have been going when I knew no one would be about. Today I was feeling brave and decided to try a different route and go through the village instead of skirting around the edge. Then along came an old white Escort containing two F@#k Wits. The language was choice and the suggestions physically impossible. I would normally, especially in my current fragile state, have been very distressed by this, but, I was fine. I thought about people on the forum who have spoken about being heckled and the advice and support they have been given and, I was OK! I never thought I would be able to run and I never thought I would be able to shrug off something like this. I think Doctors should be able to prescribe this forum as an antidepressant. Thankyou to all of you who post support and advice here. You really made a difference to me today πŸ’•

Good for you! Glad they didn't get to you - it shows that running makes us stronger in more ways than one.

Good to hear! We build gremlin armour, bully armour, etc. around each other and ourselves :-)

Who's the winner, a couple of cocks shouting out of their window or someone changing their life for the better? That's an easy one.

Glad you rained positive. There will always be people with their own difficulties leading to stupid behaviour. Your attitude shows just how strong you are.

Running has made me more resilient. I think I'll keep doing it!

Fantastic. My conclusion for today is that running rocks! (and so does this forum)

So glad you ignored them, there's no point getting up tight about a couple of idiots. I always think it's a really brave thing just putting on your shoes and getting out there, wobbly bits and all. I've had nothing but encouragement from all my friends who run, which is great.

Aw bundoodle, your post really made me smile. I read this just before I went out for a run. I also suffer from depression and have found running to have helped. I've just had a really good run as I beat my 5k PB, but I did get laughed at from a car for the first time (that I've been aware of...)! But I thought of your post and just shrugged it off ... some morons in a crappy car can't get us down! long may our runs be happy and positive :)

Bundoodle profile image
BundoodleGraduate in reply to LinaLamont

So glad to have passed on the C25K positivity! There will always be morons (sometimes in crappy cars) to deal with, but as long as we use the strength within ourselves, buoyed up by the support of others like us, there is nothing we can't do! Yes, I am having a much better day today πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘

Just saw this post. I was worried about what I was going to read, and came out at the end grinning all over my face. Just what you need on a run: a couple of w**kers in a tanker to remind you what the dark side looks like. Good for you for ignoring them and moving on: it's water off a duck's back, or as they say in France, "Toad spit can't reach the white dove".
