I got an email saying that for June, 5 and 10k training plans will be free. But if I go there on the app, it asks for payment. Has anyone got round this? Do people think the upgrade to the paid service is worth it?

I don't know about mapmyrun, but garmin connect has free running plans, as does Asics. One benefit of Asics is that it adapts so if it notices your runs aren't on target it will adjust the plan automatically.
Alternatively, just google for a whole bunch of free running plans.
In other words, I really wouldn't be paying any money just for a training plan.
It is similar on runkeeper, haven't "up graded" since I started . As yatesco says plenty of good free plans out there , asics,Zen labs and blue fin off thevtopmof my head
