30 Days Wild

If you haven't heard about 30 Days Wild, it is a wonderful companion to C25K and running... so many people have enjoyed the benefits not just (or even primarily) of physical fitness but the psychological and, dare I say it, spiritual benefits of getting outside.

So I would encourage everyone to sign up, it costs you nothing:

mywildlife.org.uk/30dayswild/

Last year I did things like eating nettles in several different ways, walking barefoot on grass, having an evening picnic, reading Boff Whalley's Running Wild... and making notes on what I experienced on my runs - sights, sounds, smells.

Oh I'm glad, you're very welcome. I sometimes assume that everyone already knows about stuff and has made the decision not to be involved...not so!

I like the way the ideas do allow for 'rest' days - things like 'make a birdsong ringtone' (I already wake up to a wren) or 'watch a live nature webcam' (Springwatch starts tonight folks) and you don't have to be blessed as I am with being within easy reach of wild places, it is about exploring what is available to you, yes, increasing your reach a little but no more than you want (rather like C25K)

Incidentally, I was watching an interview with Springwatch's Chris Packham and he mentioned in passing that he goes running with his infamous poodles Itchy and Scratchy.

Bobtillyoudrop posted about the emotional benefits of being out in the countryside yesterday.

Great that Springwatch is on this week and you reminded me that I need to buy Chris Packham's autobiography "Fingers in the Sparkle Jar". Did you know he has been diagnosed as having Asperger's, as an adult?which explains his encyclopaedic mind!

I like to think it is possible to have an encyclopaedic mind without having Asperger's... but it often helps...

You will have seen the book described as astonishing. And it is.

I'm *not* tasting tadpoles for 30DaysWild though... tried a fresh beech leaf the other day, nice lemony hit at the end.

Am very interested in reading it as I have worked with adults and children with ASD and Aspergers most of my working life. I'm with you on the tadpoles btw!

Just signed up, sounds like a good way to get my butt out of the door on days when I am not running.

I've signed up for this also. I'm interested in ornithology but don't get out with my binos as often as I'd like, so 30DW is a great goal for a geek like me.

And I agree on CP's book - thoroughly enjoyed it.
