Starting Week 5 tomorrow

Earlier this year I was 'fitting in' going to the Gym, on average, once a week. I was chatting to a work colleague and mentioned I was trying to increase my running on the treadmill and she asked me why I didn't try running outside. She shared her own story of always thinking she wasn't a runner but over the last few years had gradually started to run and was due to run the Cardiff Half Marathon. She recommended Alexandra Hemingsley's book "Running Like a Girl" and said "if I can run, anyone can". I read the book and within a couple of chapters I was hooked. I had heard a couple of people mention the C25k and did a bit of research on-line before downloading the podcasts. Four weeks on and I'm on track to run my first 5k run the day after my 51st birthday. I love running. It's not always easy. I've found that if I go out of the house thinking "it's going to be tough", then it is. Now I approach each run as a challenge and the buzz I get afterwards is amazing. My whole attitude to myself has changed. I'm running at 6.30 in the morning, before work and eating healthier, drinking more water than I've ever done and my skin is glowing. Thank you NHS Couch to 5k. Thank you Laura. For the first time in my life I believe I can run. #thisgirlcanrun

Thanks for that post! I'm still not able to say that I'm a proper runner, but I'm beginning to believe that I will be in just four more weeks.

What a wonderful post! Your positive attitude is going to do you wonders with the programme - it's as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one. I'm reading that book right now and absolutely love it. Good luck with the programme, keep us posted on how you get on.
