Strange shin problems!

Hi,

I started the programme a few months ago and got through to week 5 but stopped after getting ill. I managed to kick myself back into it today and went back to week 2, but just a few minutes in I was getting severe shin pain. On the side of each shin I developed large red patches. The pain was tolerable when running but much worse on the walks in between. Following my run my ankles completely siezed so I had to shuffle out of the gym like a penguin!

I didn't have this before, and I haven't changed shoes or anything else. I really want to get my momentum back and complete the programme. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?

I'm attaching a photo of the redness, hopefully it'll show.

First and foremost, I'm not qualified. For what it's worth, and just going on my limited experiences with family and friends then to me, it looks like a few things I've seen. Firstly, is it just skin irritation? Doesn't really sound like it but could it be a localised reaction to elastane in socks or something? Secondly, could it be cellulitis? Inflamed and infected cells which doesn't tend to subside, really hurts and may need antibiotics. Usually occurs from broken skin or a bite though I think. Lastly, the other thing is circulation. Poorer circulation can have your legs and ankles like that. If it lasts a few days or occurs again when you run it might be worth a g.p. visit. I might be talking absolute mince, so bear it in mind!

I think this is one for the GP. Fingers crossed it clears up soon. Good luck🙂
