W6R1 - uncharted territory

First time on week 6 and it was yuk - windy, wet and miserable.  I ran alone tonight which always leaves me with pacing issues as even though the other half can run faster than me when I am on my own I find I run faster myself.  Which when you are trying to go slow is not ideal.  I read a post by John_W  today and maybe talk of fast running had an effect on me!  So I was really ready for the first walk break and felt quite out of breath.  The route I took was past my secondary school, the scene of many dreadful cross country experiences and indeed I ran part of it tonight, remembering the heavy legs and laboured breathing back then and reflecting that not much has changed!

I have to admit, I did not enjoy this run.  I have read posts from many other people saying the same.  There is no way I could have run for 20 solid minutes tonight.  By the end of this I felt exhausted and a little dizzy.  The wind and rain didn't help at all.  But I still did it and with an extra 2 minutes tagged onto the cool down I covered 4.5km.  Probably too much.  But now I have my feet up, knowing in half an hour I can take more painkillers!  Onwards and upwards 😃

Hey Lisa,

Really well done! You did it, that's the main thing. I hope I didn't inspire you to go too fast ... After all your struggles with Week 5, look where you are...  Amazing, no?

The conditions didn't sound conducive to a good run, so please take confidence from the fact that you managed it, despite the obvious difficulty.

You're doing so well right now. Keep it up and just go for it. You've very nearly  broken the back of this :-)

John

Thanks John, I am starting to get a little confidence and previously I would have stayed in and not run in those conditions so it's all progress! 😃

Hiya!

Well done for getting out there, despite the grotty weather.

A lot of people do find week 6 a challenge - I know I did. It sounds like you know exactly what you need to do for next time - go slowly, take your time, enjoy it, etc. Good luck for run 2 of this week, make sure you rest up well before then =]

It's funny how a lot of people have said they don't like this week, now I am starting to understand why.  Roll on week 7!

Interesting you say you run quicker when alone, I'm the opposite. I certainly hold myself accountable and the Strava never lies! But for some reason I seem to feel like I have to put on a bit of a show. Silly really but I always get sucked in!
