Week 8 run 1 done but still not at 5k...

Okay, I completed Run 1 of Week 8 and the total distance covered was 4.6km in 46 minutes. So, I'm running for 28 minutes and I can't imagine going any faster. I don't have a fancy fitbit or Garmin to check my speed during my run, so I can't be sure, but I don't think I'll be at 5k when I run an extra 2 minutes.

What do I do when I've completed week 9 and I'm still not at 5k? Do I just keep running 30 minutes until I cover 5k in 30 minutes or do I simply move on to Bridge to 10k?

Where were some of you at the end of week 9? What kind of distance were you covering in 30 minutes of running (or by the end of the Lara workout - 40 minutes)?

It' not about running 5k. Its about running for 30 minutes. if you search this topic on here you will find this is the most oft asked question of all. Very few people run 5k at the end of the 9 weeks. Lots still don't a year or two later. The 30 minute 5k is a really big thing in people's minds but it is an entirely arbitrary figure and not really one to get hung up on.

I'm 1 week past graduation and according to my Fitbit (which not everyone thinks does distance well) I covered 4.2k in 30 minutes. I intend on running a bit longer each time and hopefully reach 5k no matter how long it takes!

I'm only going to parrot what the others have said before me, but this plan is about getting you to run for 30 minutes continuously, not to be able to run 5k in 30minutes. I've graduated this evening, and with both walks included, I cover 5k. Does it matter to me that I can't run for 5k yet? Not really - I'm still lapping everybody on the couch, and 9 weeks ago I could barely run for a minute, let alone for 30! See the 5k as something which the plan is building you towards - but you have to take that final step yourself :)

I graduated 2 weeks ago and can cover about 4.1 k in the 30 minutes (about 38 mins for 5 k). So still a fair way to go. Others manage it more quickly. And some are slower. It's not about speed or distance, but about being able to run for 30 minutes. After graduation when stamina builds up then - apparently - we speed up. But some never get to 5 k in 30 minutes. Yet we are all runners and still love running.

We're doing this for the fitness and fun, not for competition purposes.

So enjoy your runs and don't fret😎

So agree with all the above. I run for 30 minutes and cover about 4.6K. My best time for 5K is about 39 minutes but I rarely measure it. I have a few routes I love and do those and at least once a week I do the interval speed run from Couch to 5K plus which is helping my speed. I'll never be fast but I cruise past a lot of dog walkers younger than me and at 61 get some encouraging comments from them. I also feel I have babe more energy and zest for life. Just enjoy. 😄
