Not a pretty picture

Many of you have been kind enough to send me nice messages of support. I followed C25K last year and made many new friends, strange thought, friends I've not always had the pleasure of meeting. Anyhow, annoyingly after shedding 4 stone and getting back in shape, many of you know I was diagnosed with skin cancer. I have since had it removed as the picture shows. I post this to create awareness of the need to cover up from around March / April till October, even though many of us don't think the sun is strong enough most of the time to do damage, I'm told even if it is cloudy, still cover up. Sorry if it puts you off your breakfast/lunch or tea lol. But its well meant. Good luck to you all on your quest for fitness, speed or just improved lifestyle. And a big well done to my friend Hilbean .

Ok crikey! Poor you! I'm so sorry to hear of your health problems. I hope you're all right now. I expect the treatment will be long term and that you will be attending hospital for check-ups for a long time to come. Skin cancer is more prevalent than perhaps folks might think, even in young children.

I hope you'll be able to continue with your running and keeping yourself fit.

Good luck!

I'm fine now thanks misswobble, just off to have the stitches out. Got to go back in April for another check up.

All the best to you Hussainboltz. Your posts inspired me when I first started the couch to 5K early last year.

Oh. I didn't know. Sorry to hear that mate, that C-word is such a big and scary one. You're right to flag the warning, and thank you for doing so. Hope the next checkup shows you're ok.

Cheers Tomas, all seems ok now. Don't really like to bang on about these things, but if some people are like me, I never even thought it would affect me given how little sun we see.

Good to see you on the mend, I'm prone to it myself, having one looked at soon, brother had a couple removed on each cheek of his face a short while back.Slip, slop, slap!

Glad that you're OK Hussain and hope now that it's gone, it's gone for good. I have to say the surgeon has done a very neat job there. I did once get sunburn on my ears - it's easily done without realising it's happening and your reminder to cover up is a very good and timely one. Take care x

Thanks for posting this Ian.

I remember burning my ears in Lanzarote once , they were like 2 pieces of pork crackling, always make sure I smother them in suncream since .

Glad to see that youre on the mend and all the very best on a complete recovery xxx

Thank you everybody for your messages, I'm absolutely fine now, never felt fitter for years. I only post it to just bring it to peoples attention, I think its something that in this poor climate we live in, it easy to overlook something like this. Hope everybody is doing well and looking forward to a good spring/summer of running and outdoors. Thanks once again to everyone.

Thank you for posting, and I hope all is now well. It is very difficult to remember to put suncream on every time because I don't think of the UK as a dangerously sunny place. Your photo is a timely reminder as we head into Spring (ha, well, nearly!) and the layers start to come off.

My family is very pale skinned (fair celtic skin) and my dad gets recurrent carcinomas and my huband also recently had one removed. Its so easy to underestimate the risks, but its something we should all be aware of. Childhood sundamage is the worst, so if that sounds like you (I remember some vicious sunburn as a kid, back in the 70s before we knew that is was dangerous) keep an eye out for changes and get them checked out and of course keep covered in the sun.

Thanks for the warning I wouldn't even think of covering up/sunscreen until May and still use sun cream on cloudy days as I always remember it's the same sun cloudy or not ! I will take heed and start sun cream as soon as its warm enough for a t-shirt ! I really hope you have seen the last of your skin cancer take care ! ;)
