New Bling and my Mum's old skirt.

New Bling and my Mum's old skirt.

Yesterday I did the first ever West London 10km closed road run. I had a great morning and the weather behaved itself. It was forecasting 41 mph winds but there were gentle gusts that cooled rather than forced me off the road. I had had a nasty bug earlier In The week so I decided just go and have fun on the run.

I love doing events, I am at the back of the pack and the atmosphere between the runners and spectators is great. Even if I thought I could run faster I'm not sure I would want to. They say people always cheer the loudest at the front and at the end. I have habit of giving a thumbs up to any marshal or spectator that waves, smiles or claps and I think I got a record for the most thumbs up yesterday which was lovely. I go to enjoy my event. Not to compete.

The reason in the title "my Mums skirt" is that a couple of events I've been to the changing facilities do not have a lot of dignity to them and I wouldn't want to expose myself to everyone outside the tent. So I found an old skirt of my Mums its from the 80 and it's just an elasticated long skirt in cotton. The good thing is I can put it over my running stuff hitch it up below my armpits and get totally changed underneath, while still keeping my dignity intact. It was so nice on the way home to be in warm clean clothes and feel comfortable, so from now on my Mums old skirt comes to events with me, I knew I'd kept it for a reason.

Happy running to you all.

Love the bling and it sounds like you had a great time - well done!

The skirt thing is genius - like taking your own personal changing tent wherever you run! And I agree - getting out of your running gear is second only to a hot shower in making you feel human again after a long run!

Thank you. The skirt was an after thought kind of thing but it worked perfectly.

You could make them in towelling material, even me with my terrible sewing skills could manage that.

When I was a wee girl in the 1960s we used to have these in towelling so we could get changed on the beach!

Yes we did too!

lol. Get yourself a Dryrobe - loads of room for changing inside and keeps you warm and snuggly and protected from teh elements a the same time. Perfect for post winter runs.

Well done on the run and well done on the attitude. I am also much more in the camp of 'having fun is better than getting a PB' these days.

I could ask Santa but if I had to buy one myself I would prefer to put the money to more events. Hehe. They are so much fun.

Quite a few race organisers sell them with a free race bundled in the price. I think that's how I did Nuclear Blast this year.

Although my dog, Daisy bought me mine as a birthday present.

Sounds like a wonderful way to enjoy your events :) And aren't mum's wonderful :D I remember my mum made us towelling ponchos for changing at the beach when we were kids and I'm sure your mum's skirt was every bit as good as that if not better :D

Brilliant bling RFC! Love that. So pleased you felt well enough on the day and clearly enjoyed it too. And very creative on the skirt! As long as it's not windy and it blows up!

I've been lucky, so many around me are still coughing and spluttering. I am sure my immune system is stronger with running. Oh no I would hate to do a Marylyn Monroe😜.

Hehe 😂😂 Genius!!

So glad you enjoyed yourself. If you're not it to win it (and let's face it, most of us aren't) then you might as well have as much fun as possible. xxx

Thanks I really do have fun, I don't think I will ever get to the first pen let alone win. Not sure I would change anything though I think it would take the fun out of it.

That's a good idea, I know exactly what you mean about those long 80s skirts!! I love your bling too! :-)

Thank you, yes I kept the skirt because it reminded me so much of my mum but I sort of knew I would probably not wear it myself. This way it gets a good use.

Fantastic ☺I don't see the point in doing events if you're not going to enjoy it and try and have some fun. ☺

Thank you. Exactly, your spare time in life should always be about fun, I think.

Let's face it - only the top handful are racing against each other. The rest of us are trying to do our best in the circumstances we've set for ourselves, be that trying for a PB or to keep smiling the whole way around ☺
