Okay, not run 5k since 22nd october. In fact, barely run at all following a chesty cough! So , went out tonight and wow, did it hurt . I only covered 3.5k . My legs felt like lead. Surely i cant have lost so much fitness so quickly ? I think its going to be a very long winter. Im wondering should i join a gym and hit the treadmill ?

Well done for getting out there again! No, you probably have not lost that much fitness; you've been ill, and maybe you had one of those bad runs that happen anyway- sometimes for the very reason that you're worried you might have a bad run. I'm sure if you have a day or two off and then go again, you will find it less difficult 😀

A big well done for getting back out there, not the easiest to do in this weather! You won't have lost your fitness, you've been ill. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with your next run :)

Don't beat yourself up about not doing 5k. I focus more on running for half an hour. Hope you feel better soon.

My friend Gary S has had a chest infection and has been out of action for nigh on a month. We went out for a jog just for about 20 odd minutes to get him back into it, he was fine and will now build on that.

So, you don't have to go out doing 5ks after illness.

Well done to getting out again though.. take it easy!
