Dissappointed tonight, after 2 weeks holiday and a weight gain my jogging was terrible had to stop after 12mins not good. Feel I need to build back up again to get anywhere near a 5k. Has anyone had the same feeling after a small break but managed to get back on it?

Hey, don't beat yourself up about it :) It's just one run, see it as a warm-up after well-deserved break. We all have runs that don't work out as we'd like, but know what? IT'S STILL A RUN. And it's still miles better than 12 minutes sitting on the couch. I'm back to running after a two week break too, and I'm just concentrating on getting back in the groove. So file it away in the experience cabinet, and go out for another run soon, fixing yourself an attainable goal - either a run from the C25K podcast, or your own goal of 3K, for example - if it goes better (no reason it shouldn't), just keep going when you hit the magic number! Keep us posted and keep positive - look how far you've got since you started out on D1W1....

Thank you, just what I needed. Going to get out there hopefully tonight and try again.

I just had a week off. Various health issues including IBS and massive gremlin attack. Felt very low about it. Went out yesterday evening and it was really difficult, but I did manage 30 mins, but sadly had to pause at 28 mins and go in the bushes due to IBS - this didn't really help my mood as you might imagine. Finished the 30 mins, then after 3 mins walking for whatever reason I decided to run another km. Legs hips and shoulders now incredibly sore, plantar fasciitis playing up. Wah! At least we got out there though, eh.

Well done on being out there for 30mins, better than I would have done if I had IBS playing up. Hoping the soreness doesn't last too long

Thanks Lindar. Me too! What with that and having to go for a poo... Massive doubts about running right now and that's so sad, I have really enjoyed the programme and getting fitter and the sense of achievement... How about you?

I was just starting to enjoy it and really proud of myself with my achievement. I had a weeks break one time when I was ill but no weight gain and managed to get back to it. I think the 7lb weight gain is the hurdle.....so its coming off. Onwards and upwards......

I'm wondering if there's a link between: deciding to push it and run another kilometre, feeling so down about running, and having IBS?

I've just been out for a run for the first time in several weeks (the longest break I have ever had) and definitely felt an unpleasant dragging sensation in the lower reaches of my gut although otherwise the 30 minutes was fine. Slow but it has been like that since I had flu at the beginning of May. It did make me smile though remembering that problem to happen a lot more when I first started running.

I was about to say "Aw, poo", but that would be inappropriate. Poor you, Rainshine, that's awful. You're one brave cookie. Hugs. And take care of yourself, huh xxx

I'm giving my knees a week off , and the PF has started playing up. After 2 days I'm already wondering if I'll be able to run again once I get back out there. I'm going to choose a shorter route rather than running ' away' as I have been doing in the hope that will help psychologically.

Good luck with getting back out there!

We need to keep pushing ourselves but we will get there. You've done it before and you will do it again. Good luck x

I had a few weeks off after getting all the way to week 8 and then I got the flu. When I recovered and started again I really struggled. To keep me motivated I went right back to week one. I was soon back into the groove, and now I've graduated, done a race for life and still enjoy running 5ks for fun in the local park - a sentence I never thought I'd see written anywhere! Good luck and keep going xx

We all have! Just get back on it and keep going. Head down and keep plugging away. You'll be fine. Nice and steady

Have fun. That's what it's all about. You will lose weight and get fit while you're at it. Lots of positives with this running lark but just go nice and steady

Yep, that sounds normal. Don't beat yourself up, keep going, little and often is your friend at this point. At some point something just 'clicks' again, but it usually takes me a couple of weeks after a gap.

Listening to Jimi Hendrix on your headphones helps :)
