I think the novelty might be wearing off. Even though I've completed the 2nd week I didn't enjoy my run. It may have been because I have to run after work and my legs felt really heavy, or possibly the different trainers I used which seem to make my calf muscles work really hard. What sort of trainers do people recommend when they start off running? Perhaps some retail therapy can help with motivation?!

Don't jump to hasty conclusions! Cut yourself some slack and pat yourself on the back... you've succeeded! And after work, too, AND in the rain! That's called motivation in my book. There are runs that just "do", and runs that really "do it" for you. This one was in the first category - just keep going, and you'll have less of them. What kind of trainers are you wearing? How old/used are they? I started off with an ancient pair I'd had since the noughties -not up to scratch at all by recent running standards, and when I bought a new pair I felt like Zebedee rather than Neil Armstrong. New trainers don't have to be expensive (I got Decathlon's own brand, Kalenji). Not only will your body thank you for it, but you'll feel obliged to at least go through to graduation before thinking about giving up, and by then.. you'll be hooked
Keep it there, give calves a stretch & a massage, and carry on regardless. Do as mfam says about the trainers, these can make all the difference. You must not give up!
I was out in the rain today, nice and refreshing..
Dont worry Pepsi, I would say this is perfectly normal. There will be some runs that you dont want to end and you just want to keep going , then there are runs where you cant wait for them to end !
I would echo the other replies with the cool down stretches and have proper running trainers .Like Mfam says , Decathlon do some really good ones in their own brand .
You are doing it and lapping everyone on the couch
Keep at it, you can do it ! xxx
