Almost everyone who has done the programme, don't worry. This is one of the most common topics of discussion. No one has every found a definitive explanation, but fear not, R2 and R3 are back to normal for most people.

It may of just been me. But it was tough.

You might find that without realising it you pushed yourself a bit too hard?

But yes, just as everything looks like it's going to be all daisies from now on, that bad run arrives. Fortunately it only takes about 30 minutes to get to the point where you can just wash the dust of it off your feet, and leave it in the past.

The worst bad run I had was one I was particularly eager for before I set out. (I forget which - one of the Week 5 runs). I had springs in my heels like Jack, I had ants in my pants, I'll been straining at the leash all day to get out and do this run ... and then it killed me. It started bad, it got worse, it became a test of endurance, and finally I was wondering when it would all just end. Fortunately the next run was fantastic again. It happens.

I found this run hard too, in fact all of week 6 & 7 was a bit of a slog and I found myself repeating several of these runs. but don't worry, if you can get through these then you are definitely on the way to graduation! Good luck and keep on going. (PS, also the song choice something to do with 'make me go red' did start to become very tedious especially as I was beetroot red myself by then.

Thank you for words of wisdom and inspiration

It generally does seem to catch you out, the euphoria of a solid 20 min run then back to run/walk seems to be step backwards in the mind..

it is just another step along the way :) keep at it you are doing great :D

Thank you for answering. It certainly did catch me out as I had such a good feeling after the 20 min run that I thought it would be easy. Not a chance !

Rest assured, you are not alone! It's all part of the mind games those head gremlins play. It's also an example of how great the program is in that it doesn't just build you up physically, but gives you the mental stamina you need to stick at running once the program is over. Stick with it; you are doing brilliantly! You're over half way through - in fact only 11 more runs to graduation!!

I've just completed the W5R3 and jumped for joy after realising I had just ran for 20 minutes without a rest! It felt like I did it pretty easily but then the rest of the evening I felt exhausted and it took me a long time to recover. I'm looking forward to what I thought would be a lighter run tonight... but I believe there's a bigger 25 minute run at the end of this week!
