Week 1 run 3 (4th run really)

I completed my runs today and I think that overall I was faster too. I was running up hills too. Unfortunately I had to stop before the cool down was over. A kid in front of me ran over a ground squirrel with his bike. I stopped to take it off of the path and petted it for a while. It was pretty obviously dying, but I couldn't bring myself to finish it off. I covered it with a huge leaf I picked and left it there. I will definitely not be leaving home without a kleenex again! Poor squirrel. Poor kid too (he felt really bad). Moving on now...

At any rate, I'm on to week 2 now 😎!

This is a common thread among us all, I think: By going out there and moving through the world at running pace, we encounter life happening. Real life, not that rectangular window of edited life you see from the couch. And sometimes that means hitting into the little bits of sadness like squirrels who don't get to have all of their wonderful little lives. It's unfortunately those exceptions to the normal that tend to feel significant to us, but each run has its little bits of real life in it.

Well done running up the hills so early! My "runs" up hills in Week 1 (well even now, actually) are slower than just walking would be. But it's a twisted kind of fun, somehow.

Thank you! Yeah, I love getting outside more. I love that I've already seen some improvement too. I felt awful for the squirrel, but I still was proud of the run. I'm not going much faster than a walk by the way. About 13-14 minutes per 1.6 km. I think I might get hooked on the challenge and successes of running. 😎

Hills are hard work, but great for stamina and strengthening your muscles.

Pretty sad to see such a lovely little creature suffer so. I've only encountered those that have already shuffled off, rabbits and birds, and been responsible for the demise of one very large fly.

Let's hope you feel only the emotions of a good run next time out. πŸ˜€

I have had other good runs without the drama. Hopefully I was able to make its last moments a bit better. No worries, I'll be back out again.
