Welcome to Week 3

(6 July -16 August)

Here we are at the half way point already, I don't know whether it's because work is manic at the moment but time is really ticking on, it helps a bit to be so busy with not being able to run. I watch longingly as people run past me, physio tomorrow but I don't think he will say I can run yet.

What the quest is:-

The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put

I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing from John O Groats to Lands End.

Then it all starts again for another six week Quest.

I have walked 5km every day last week also kept an eye in my food intake and lost a couple of pounds. The thing that is bugging me the most is I am losing my running figure. I am getting wobbly were my running muscles should be. I know as soon as I can get out there again they will come back but I miss them. Not being able to do any upper body work dosent help as well. But I mustn't grumble I am lucky I can still walk daily. Happy running to everyone. And happy healing to those that can't.

Glad you getting out for walks rfc and great you've lost lbs . Apart from my calves I've never had running muscles ! Hope your recovery is on track and all these walking ks will help you get running firm back when time is right. Just hang on in there

Aww, I do hope your recovery isn't too far away. It's hard going though isn't it? Walking 5k is great though and I am pretty sure your running muscles (wish I had them) will come back quickly once you are fully recovered and back out there. In the meantime happy walking and keep your chin up x

I really sympathise with you Rfc ....getting wobbly happens so fast when we have to slack off the running for whatever reason ...I have noticed how much harder I am finding it as I have a few extra kilos to carry around with me now I've started again 😞

Well done on the walking though...that must be helping maintain your fitness until you can resume the running .

Only managed to increse long run very slightly but being trying new routes which are uphill so pleased with that. Also been running at different times with people from jogscotland group so really enjoyed the different company and chat . (Wanting to keep this positive so let's not talk about food/ weight)

After some pains in left left following race for life the previous Sunday i tool it a bit easier. Ran to work once and then did second race for life on Saturday morning. Leg pain was ok on sat, but raising its head again more the day after, so probably won't run until weekend and cycle a bit instead (and use anti-inflammatory gel the doc prescribed ). Hopefully gel and running rest will help.

Had a good week last week. Running Club Tuesday, the Stamina C25k podcast 5k on Thursday and Parkrun on Saturday with a PB - Woo hoo !

Going to Running Club tomorrow , will do the Stepping Stones Podcast on Thursday and then Park run again on Saturday.

Still walking 5k to work Monday and Friday , but really need to do some general strength building exercises as they have fallen by the wayside lately :-(

I had an ok week but did only 2 runs and not 3 because of getting an ECG. But I'm thrilled that on both runs (5K) I've increased cadence and the first 5K I managed all the splits at 180+ and the last one at 186! It takes a bit of concentration but running seems easier when I have a higher cadence so I'm determined to keep trying and hopefully I'll do it without thinking!

I also did a Pilates class which was harder than usual as we had a new teacher (blimey he had us doing side planks and one leg bridges and I ached a lot the next day!) and a weights session, so not bad actually.

I wish fellow questers a great running week and send those on the IC a "Get Well Quick" message.

Well, I had a swim and I had a run... and just had nowhere really that I could sensibly get another session in. But the yoga... the yoga continues, day in, day out.

I'm getting the wobbles too RFC although that's a bit less exercise over a number of weeks *and* a bit more sweet stuff/inattention to portion size (weighed my potatoes for breakfast and my eye is definitely out) so I need to take a leaf out of your book.

I managed to get a bike ride in this weekend, not very fast as I was trying to find the way a bit, but a test run of cycling to the swimming pool as parking can be a bit on an issue there. Bit not go swimming this week, but the round trip was 12km on the bike so still some decent exercise! I also managed to extend my run this weekend and got up to 8km!

Next weekend I am planning to do my virtual triathlon so will definately get a swim and a cycle in! I also plan to get my long run up to 9km. Wish me luck! Hope all the other questers have a good week.

I had a good week runwise- followed Myasics for good and did

3 runs , a 10k Tuesday, a sloooow (it's so hard to go really slow) 5 k Friday and another 10k Sunday - with great results on the 10k front- 1h22:18 on Tuesday and... 1h 17:00 on Sunday!!!! Event this Saturday, looking forward to it - and also to the talk that will be given the night before by "Team Hoyt" - a father and son team that will run the marathon part of the same event - the son is on a wheelchair, and the dad is pushing it - I think I'll shed a good few emotional tears to that one :) teamhoyt.com

I would like to join the quest please. I just want to keep running as much as I can. Got a lot on family-wise over the next few weeks, so no specific goals. When I get a bit more free time I want to aim for a 10K but will have to keep that for another quest!

Hi to all questers! Had a good week the week, managed my three runs one of which was up in Aberdeen with my brother -in-law. He's a fair bit quicker than me but we did a pretty speedy 4.5k together. I think I have finally got my head around running a bit faster again. Had my confidence knocked after three months on IC last year and it's taken a long time to get back to where I was. Not that I particularly want to run faster every run but that I can do it if I want to so IaAm going to do the speed podcast this week.

Have been thoroughly enjoying going out with some of the jog scotland group, including the lovely Rona aka Fitfor60 who took us for a lovely run last night. Enjoying my running and hopefully yoga will be on tonight - have a great week everyone :)

Quite a good week really ,though still a struggle due to the relentless heat .

Managed to get three runs in...two 5.3K's and a 6.2K...all with 0.5K warm up walks and with a few breaks for walking during each one as I found them all really tough going.

I am so unfit ....and sooo slow 😞

Did a bike ride of about 8K between my first and second run on what would have been a rest day...really felt that in my legs during that second run.

Have to admit I've yet to enjoy any of these outings ...that's down to the sheer fact that I hate running in the heat I think ,though I do count myself lucky that I can get out at all when so many of you are ...or have been ....laid up lately.

I'm still plugging away at it, the heat wave here is never ending...Still, I've got a few good runs in, I'm sort of getting used to the heat and humidity. I'm now taking rest breaks when ever I find a patch of shadow (rare stuff around here, shadow!) where as I used to just keep running without stopping. Funny really, I feel sort of guilty about stopping - I think that's Laura's fault! The hill training I had intended to do while here has not begun, t's just too too hot...maybe it will cool down soon....(Not holding my breath!)
