Still on W3!!! But...

I went out with my wee doggy Diva and ran on and off for 30 minutes the other day...further than I'd ever ran before and it was really enjoyable. Mostly due to the fact I'd left my earphones at work, but it was a beautiful day and I had to go out for a jog/run. so I think I'll start again on week 3 r2 tonight. I have signed up to do 10K in the Edinburgh Marathon next year!! I hope I don't sound like a chicken when I do have just under a year to practise but since it's my first time I want to do it easily and one day I just may run a half marathon then a full one!! Let's get this couch to 5k finished first....so hope the rain stays off today and i'll have a light dinner and off i'll go. What do you guys like to eat before you go out for a wee run? Any ideas? I used to think an empty stomach but now am hearing not a good idea at all...so can you inspire me? something quick after work then I can get going!!

Thanks everyone xx

Well done to you and Diva. Just be careful not to overdo it at this stage though, overuse injuries and niggles are very common.

In terms of what to eat, we are all different. Regardless of the time of day, I usually have a banana before and after running.

Thank you, Diva is a lovely wee thing and under a year old and she really enjoys the runs.

I was just wondering if you had to eat something. I find I'm okay if I don't, but Laura tells you a banana after is good so I'll stick with not eating beforehand.

Sounds like you are doing fine, have to say though I really like running in the rain- or a wee bit drizzle anyway, cools me down a treat :)

I really can't eat anything less than two hours before a run, I am lucky in that I can run at all odd times (I am self employed and work from home) so usually go out about 3 hours after breakfast. If I am going to jog scotland group which is at 5.30 or 6.30 then I don't eat anything beforehand. We are all different though so just experiment, you'll soon find out if it suits you or not!

10k by next year? No problem, just finish the C25K first though and enjoy the process without putting pressure on yourself. Then you can think about how you want to do it. Some folk do a bridge to 10k with is another 6 or 8 week plan. I had no time limit and am 'wearing on' so wanted to take my time and not stress my body too much, so just increased one of my runs each week, staying at 6 or 7 k for months then over a period of a month or two gradually increased the longer run to 10k. Main thing is to enjoy it, sounds like you are!

Hey! I find that I don't have to eat either, just with reading other posts some people do and some don't so as long as it's not gonna do any harm then I don't mind not eating until I get back.

Yeah I am enjoying it although my asthma is bad at the minute, which is annoying as it's lovely weather in Edinburgh just now, so last night me and Diva went for a big long walk but I found walking too fast was affecting my breathing so had to take it quite slow but at least I went for a 2 mile walk. I'll get to the doctor and get repaired then get back onto the run. I think since I've given myself so much time I should be ok with 10k. It's finding nice places to run as well, I'm bad for getting bored quickly so I think that's why I'm enjoying the nice weather for a wee run. Taking my wee dog has pros and cons and since I'm at work all day I have to take her with me, otherwise my hubby is with her all the time, and she is supposed to be my dog!! Unless I want to run on the street, I'll leave her behind but walkways are great for her. I can't wait to feel 100% and get running down to Portobello...will be amazing!! Thanks for all your advice!! Everyone is so lovely on here.

I am in Edinburgh too. I really like a wee run along the front at Cramond/Silverknowes, which is where park run is every Saturday. Although there is a new one at Portobello too, not been there yet. I also run along the old railway lines and the Water of Leith. I like a wee change too.

Hope you get the asthma sorted out soon, might be others here who have suggestions about managing that and running. You are right, everyone is lovely here, such a warm positive community to be part of. Happy running, and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!
