Nice.

Don't think it'll tempt me from my FR220 though.

The 920XT on the other hand... ;)

Looking at the functionality, it is essentially a colour-screened FR15 with a built-in Mio Link. Not a bad offering but not for me - like Peter B the 920XT is the only Garmin I would think about in that sort of price bracket.

Ooh, that's nice. Any idea on the accuracy of the optical sensor?

The Mio Link (which uses the same technology) is said to be very good Frocky with pretty much universally good reviews.

It actually 'calculates' the blood flow through your wrist and through the use of some funky algorithms arrives at your heart rate.

Of course, it's never going to be as accurate as an EKG but the chest strap monitors aren't either.

Cheers, Dunder, that's good to know.

I guess it is much like the body fat measurements on a set of bathroom scales then in that it helps to see pattern shifts rather than thinking that you have a medical-grade piece of equipment? Anything that ditches the use of a chest strap is a step in the right direction for me!!

Is this the same principle as the clip that they put on your finger in the hospital then?

Same principle yes although the finger clip thingy is used primarily to 'calculate' blood oxygen levels.

Starting to move off topic - the optical sensing isn't recommended for those of us (or rather you - in my case), who have dark tattoos on your wrists. Apparently the tattoo confuses the sensing mechanism. Lots of Apple Watch (which uses the same technology) buyers are up in arms about this in the US. It's been known about for some time but has never been an issue until Apple started to use it and the potential userbase increased massively overnight...

Just another reason why you should avoid tattoos.

Or alternatively avoid Apple watches 😉

Happy with the 610, but it does look nice.

I'd have a Fenix 3 if I was spending that sort of money.
