Sub 1 hour 10k - YIPPEEEEEE!

The title says it all really. Half marathon next Sunday. Training "plan", such as it was, has fallen apart due to a bout of sciatica (grr), so rather than try a long run today I decided 10k would be enough. 59:35, not bad for a 53 year old woman who, up until 3 years ago, hadn't run since school days!

Thanks. Some runs are better than others aren't they? This was a good one!

Wow! That is fantastic. I wish you lots of luck for next weeks half marathon, and as a 50yr old woman myself, and just in to week 7, thank you for the inspiration!

This running business does strange things to a person. If you want some advice I would say do this for yourself. Some of us are slower than others, some will get faster over time and some won't. Some runs are good, some are horrendous. We are out there doing it, and that's what counts. Good luck over the next few weeks. Not long 'til graduation now!

That's a great time! I was pleased with myself a week ago for doing it in a shade under 70 minutes - I'm jealous!

Thanks. It's taken me a long time to be able to do it. I don't imagine for one minute that I am going to be able to replicate it every time I run. Everything was obviously aligned properly today!

Thank you. I did a hm in 2013 and decided I never needed to do another one. My friend, however, had other ideas! Never again - training is too boring!

Fab time, well done!! I just did my 10K PB.... 1 hour and 24 minutes -I'd probably end sprawled in the middle of the road if I attempted a time like yours! :) Good luck with your HM!

Oh believe me, it's taken me a long time to be able to even attempt it! I really prefer to trot along. Don't know what happened this morning, but when I saw my time at half way, I decided to go for it to see what happened. Sheer bloody mindedness and determination carried me over the last 5 minutes!

Woho! Great stuff. Well done indeed! You must be really pleased with that because it's not easy, and when you are in pain too then hats off to you for pressing on

Sciatica is awful. Hopefully it will fade into distant memory if you can strengthen your core from running and cross training. Your fitness generally just gets better. Your knees might suffer a bit after a run at our age but all in all we feel much better than we did before

Running has become easier over time. I have re-started pilates in an attempt to strengthen my core ( lack of time meant I had to give it up for a while, and it's definitely made a difference!)
