Her Maj made the request the other day that I post a photo of the beautiful part of Devon that I run in. It was looking particularly lovely this morning as I headed off, to pass that field of yellow rape, on my way up to the trees on the top of the hill, down past that distant white gable and then along the valley and back up to my starting point. 11.5k is the only way to start a bank holiday.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Looks beautiful. Running around the Cyrstal Palace tower just doesn't have the same sort of beauty. I will have to try a trail run one day. We have been doing lots of hiking in the countryside which has been great.

You must get off the road RFC, it really is better than roads. However most of this run was on roads and I think I was passed by a whole four cars.

Looks like a beautiful morning in Devon! Can't beat that red soil.

Lovely - but is it really lovelier than the Uxbridge Road?

(Yes, of course it is!)

Dunno, mate, that's up country.....us don't do that.

Looks so peaceful in the countryside! Much nicer than the North east, running past the park when the garden show is on!!

IannodaTruffe profile image

The North east has some of the most beautiful unspoilt countryside in England.....but the best bits aren't next to the garden show, in my experience.

Heart-breakingly beautiful!!! I normally have the Warwickshire countryside which ain't bad, but yesterday was Telford Park I torrential rain... Not a bad park though it has to be said

This view is less than ten minutes walk from home and on the 5k route that I have used since the beginning of C25k. I never get bored with it and never forget to count my blessings.

As I said above, it was busy today, I saw four cars.

That's beautiful I have to run 2 miles uphill to get off roads - and then I can't go much further as it is still uphill and I have to get back. The down hill return is a treat tho'.

Only the first kilometre of this run was off road, then quiet country lanes for the remainder. It was a lovely morning for a run.

Well.....I'll concede that I live in a very little world.....so I'll say "only Devon", but maybe I will have to come and visit West Cork sometime.......

How I love Devon - just beautiful. :) I would so love to live in North Devon. It is my lottery dream.

I started the bank holiday with a new 8k route around the lovely Leicestershire country side today. My life is so much better now I run and really enjoy where I live.

You are so right. I had walked a lot locally, but running has made me discover new routes and given me a greater appreciation of my immediate environment. I know I am lucky.

Oh IT! Thank you so much. That looks glorious. What a view! It must be a real pleasure to run through such countryside but I think if it was me I'd spend more time just standing still admiring the scenery! You should post a photo each season as I'm sure the winter scene is just as glorious.

Well done on that 11.5K. Have you noticed your tags?

IannodaTruffe profile image
IannodaTruffeMentor in reply to Irishprincess

I'm glad you found the post. Because I run down that ridge at least twice a week, I don't stand and stare, but it always brings a smile to my face. You are right about it changing with the seasons, which is why I don't get bored running the same old route. Some misty autumn mornings with seas of mist in the valley below are equally spectacular, but this is my favourite time of year. Cool sunny mornings and the worst of the mud dried up, perfect for running .

I did spot those tags and no, I didn't edit them.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Red soil is great for growing taders! I loves taders I do. Had em for tea in fact. I made patatas bravas just for lil ol me as OH had bogged off to some swanky fancy pants do

Only been to Devon once but I did strike me how hilly the place was. You have my utmost regard Iannoda for tackling them thar hills.

I was hiking through fields of rape today and newly-sown cereal crops. Lovely sunny day. Got quite pink though

Ah MissHobblenomore by the sounds of things......good news. I love the hills. Running on the flat is just so boring and fortunately quite difficult to do around here. I do have a special out and back route which I set my 10k PB on, but it is far too level to run on a regular basis.

misswobble profile image
misswobbleGraduate

Ah yes, hobbling is a thing of the past. I was out dog walking out in the wide blue yonder today.

Did have an awful 10 k yesterday though. It was pants! Never mind I did it and it's the last one til race day. Race day is in a decent bit of countryside too, some of it through moorland, but it is on the road, cept for the last bit. Hill start, and for the first 4 km, which might put a crimp on my PB ambitions.

IannodaTruffe profile image
IannodaTruffeMentor in reply to misswobble

Knowing your record, I am sure you will have an impressive race. Good luck.

I dipped out of my local 10k race yesterday, having attended parkrun on Saturday with Mme da Truffe, where she set a new PB and I got within five seconds of the PB I set last June. That's the trouble when you knock big chunks of a PB, it takes a long time to better it. More sense to nibble seconds off on a more frequent basis.

misswobble profile image
misswobbleGraduate

Yes, I'm sure you're right. I've never bettered my 5k PB since last August. Sigh

Well done to Mme Truffe!!

Blimey, no pressure then!!. No increase in distance but a new PB today, by all of about 15seconds per km. Rock and roll :) :)
