Studying form!

Most of the elite women are swinging their arms across the front of their bodies, contrary to Laura's advice. It doesn't seem to be hindering them!

This is the first time I've been interested in watching styles - this time last year I had no thoughts of ever becoming a runner ...

Just heard Chris Evans saying he started his marathon training at Christmas! If he can run round the course after only 4 months training I am in awe!

Doesn't sound like much prep. Reminds me of Run Fat Boy Run!

Most marathon plans are about that length. I don't think he was starting from the Couch.

He said he started off running a mile after Christmas in his interview. Yikes! His aim is just to finish sometime today!

Love it! 2 people getting married mid-marathon. Run 13miles, get wed, then run another 13miles. Mad but marvellous!!👰

Glad you reminded me there, I've got it on now. Better than CBeebies anyway! Those elite women are going some speed! X

10k in 35 mins. That's exactly twice as fast as me (well that's my 5k time ... haven't done a 10k yet!).

That's my 5k time too.......least there is scope for us to improve ;) although at the same time it is quite depressing!

I was pleased last week to get 5k in 35 minutes :-) . maybe i should swing my arms about wildly and see what happens :-)

I notice some of them are wearing sleeve type things on their arms - any idea why?

useitorloseit profile image
useitorloseitGraduate in reply to Ullyrunner

It's a bit chilly and lots of them have been training at altitude in Kenya. They're easy to peel off later I guess if it warms up.

poppypug profile image

It's to keep their arms warm if they are wearing sleeveless tops . Just to warm up their muscles xxxx

Ullyrunner profile image
UllyrunnerGraduate in reply to poppypug

Oh, thanks Pops. So will they keep them on or peel them off? Can't believe they're not warm yet. Can't see me ever needing something like that! They've just got nearly half way in the time it took me to do 8k!

They look like a brilliant bit of kit for those chilly morning when you start off shivering in a long sleeve top and end up far too hot.

useitorloseit profile image

That's what I thought. You could peel them off and stuff them down your trousis rather than having to faff with tying tops round your waist.

I'm afraid my first thought was I hope all the women have good sports bras on! Mine is an essential item hence the thought. I haven't started studying form yet. Lol

Compression sleeves, like calf sleeves. All the benefits of full compression gear.

Who on Earth would decide to run a marathon, with all the prep that comes with it and then think to themselves "you know what, I might do this even better if I wore a Dinosaur costume.".....

My thoughts too but I guess the more 'distinctive' efforts are likely to raise more money for charities so the very best of luck to them.

In truth I have nothing but complete admiration for them. Mad and brilliant.

I'm watching too! Did you see the kiddy sprinting alongside the men and he couldn't keep up! They are jogging!! He was going full pelt! The speed is amazing.

You just have to be in awe of them and what they're achieving.

WOWZER! I did think one of the leading ladies had an odd motion - she looked a bit like Phoebe in friends! Which I suppose goes to prove it's not HOW you do it but that you just get out there and do it!

I spotted that too, her legs seemed to do circular outward motions :) guess it doesn't matter too much how!

I had to laugh when the commentators said the elite women were going at a slow pace (5:40/mile). I doubt I could manage a single mile at that pace nevermind adding a further 25 on the back of it :)
