Hayfever or Headcold ....

... I'm a Hayfever sufferer as soon as the tree start springing I'm like into bubble mode, puffy eyes, itchy sore throat and an open snot tap nose ... Anyway today I've been like this taken an antihistamine tablet to no avail .... Maybe a Headcold rather than allergies then ?? Which brings me to the preultimate question, should I prelong the next run to the day after tomorrow or just suck it up (yuck) and solider on tomorrow (it's not chesty) ..... What to do?? What would you runners do??

See how you feel in the morning. The received wisdom is that if its above the neck you won't do any harm, if it's below the neck better to rest up. It won't matter if you take a day or two off until you feel better.

I carried on with a head cold a couple of times (around wk 4/5 I think) and it was fine. I made sure I had taken a mild decongestant a couple of hours earlier so my nose wasn't blocked and I could breathe. I also have hayfever (have been using spray and tablets regularly for the past few weeks to build up immunity for this season) and tend to have to blow my nose frequently when running (if it's not hayfever or a cold then it's the cold wind that makes my nose run). It's not stopped me yet though. You can always go out and see how it goes - if it feels like it's too much, just stop and try again another time.

Hayfever nasal sprays work for me in keeping air passages clear. In fact I achieved my parkrun PB last June while under the influence of this product which is meant to improve air flows. I hope I don't get a life ban!!
