My body hates JuicyJu!

I did a short 3.5k run today, an exact repeat of my Graduation run of early December. But this time I used Ju's mantra - "Push that body, punish that body!" and every time, my body replied "Stop picking on me! Find another body to push and punish!" But it seemed to work! My rate before had been 6.5 minutes/km, and today was 6.18. So an improvement, possibly also due to my new streamlined jogging trousers, courtesy of Messrs. Asda.

Oh the runs I have come home and wondered how on Earth she does it, but still we try. Fanatsic inspiration that it is. Well done and I am sure your go faster pants (that's what I call mine) helped as well. happy running

I'm with you John. I prefer "gently cajole that body, politely ask that body". Mind you, you can't knock a 12 second reduction in pace. Perhaps I ought to try some self-flagellation some time!

You always go faster when you are breaking in new running togs. Tis a well-known fact. I only wear my purple pants for races as i swear i go faster in em

Good old asda!

That's funny, Miss W! They're (Asda) advertising trainers for £10, but I didn't stop to look at them. Maybe I should have.

Yes I'm with you no mantra - however I do believe if we ever get a really good nights sleep or blessed with an afternoon power nap then I expect to pay the body back with gratitude and run! No excuse not to if you are bright and breezy!! Even better with nice togs! Happy running :)

I leave that mantra for the younger and fitter amongst us. Through my own experience, I have concluded that pushing TOO hard is vary easy to do and at my age, I don't bounce back as well as I used to, so don't want to risk injury. In the past I pushed hard, gained impressive (for me) PBs and paid for it with injury. I still give it my all at parkrun, which is the only time that JJ's mantra could come into use.

Generally, slow and steady progress after graduation is as important as being slow and steady through the programme, in my opinion.

Something worked for you today, didn't it? I'd better get down to Asda...I've recently started yelling I can I can I can while waving my arms in the air....There's a FaceBook appreciation page for one of Cambridge's well known "characters" with pics showing sightings of him, it'll be me next....
