Travel workout advice

I'm in need of some advice from my fellow runners. I'm heading to Costa Rica for a couple of weeks vacation. I'm packing my running stuff, but from what I read online I'm not optimistic about getting out for any serious runs given the heat, humidity, packs of stray dogs, crummy narrow roads and the poisonous critters. We're expecting to do a lot of hiking, but if anyone can suggest some things I can do at the hostels that would help me continue the benefits of my running so it's not such a set back when I return.

Thanks and happy running.

Well i would recommend taking very little in terms of technology just for safety (don't know what the safety level is like but less your seen with always the better ) - i would recommend buying a cheap casio watch for time and don't worry about distance and just enjoy running such a beautiful country!!

when i ran in brazil it was very humid - luckily safe - and no dogs (actually haven't be bothered by dogs for a while - touch wood) i ran even in the rain in vest top and shorts - drink lots of water to keep hydrated as you sweat like there is no tomorrow! Also try to make sure you drink something like power-ade too. Keep runs short and if all else fails just love being in costa rica and forget running!

With regards to the critters just don't touch any plants was the best advice I got when i was in the sub-tropical rainforest.

You are very lucky- a little bit green - on an aside please let me know where you went as i am looking at travelling there in the future. We picked Uruguay as it was short flight but the weather is terrible next week! Hopefully things will improve
