My inner snail is smiling...

...'cause I'm kind of, ever so gently, off the injury couch! Yeaaah!!

It was a lovely sun-shiny morning, the woods were calling, my thigh was feeling good to go after 10 days rest & TLC and I was bursting to get out.

I've read lots & watched several videos since my last run (blimey..I'm a woman obsessed) - I've been looking at the Galloway run/walk/run method (joined the facebook group too) & thought I'd give something like that a go...so set up runkeeper to 8x 1min run & 8x 1min walk intervals, with 5min warm up & cool down & set off on my trail at a much gentler pace than I had been doing during c25k.

Some of my 1 min runs had decent inclines (ups & downs), but I took it all steady & loved it...I even tried a bit of Gina's 'prancing pony', which worked well, I thought! (Thanks for posting that, Gina)

There's a bit of an ache, but I excpected that, but I'll be sticking to this much gentler approach from now on & slowly build up time & pace...most of all, though, I'll just enjoy going a little further, a little faster...today I am a happy snail!! :D

sounds like you had a fab time out there!! Nothing wrong with the gentle approach you don't want to do yourself some real damage and be out of the game for a long time. so you sound like you have a great plan ahead of you :)

Thanks Rob. :D

I'm a bit of a rebel, so doing something in a slightly unconventional way appeals.

To be honest, though, I found the 25+ minute runs tough on my old body..felt like I dragged myself along for much of them and have to do a lot of talking to myself in the early part of a run.

Although yesterday's run was a very short post-injury run, I didn't get the drag feeling at all. If I'm right (and without doing the 'MagicMile' calculation accurately...see the Jeff Galloway website for an explanation of that...), I think I should be running about a 2 min 30 sec to 1 min walk ratio at my current pace. I like the idea of that, so will continue with this, for now, and see how it goes.

I'm also keen to do more trail running and this method seems to suit that kind of terrain...there are loads of fantastic long-distance paths and forest routes up here that I'd love to explore with my doggy :).

I haven't reached a 5k yet (I'm about 1/2km away) - my time should be about 40 min's at my best pace. So, my next goal is to get a 5k in, then to get it closer to 30 minutes...if I can achieve that with this run/walk method, then I guess that'll be the clincher for me. :D

Have a great 1st post-grad run tomorrow, Rob :D

So erm... the prancing pony is a happy snail :) I love the photo - how do you make the snail look so human. Quite brilliant and really glad you are getting back into the swing - take it gently as you are doing and you'll soon be running with giants again ;)
