Week 7 R2 then disaster!

breathlessinbucks profile image

Hi guys

Been lurking and enjoying everyone's posts. Despite not interacting much (at all) it's been good to feel part of a community when wheezing and spluttering my way round our local lake.

Anyway, I am on for some advice. I've been making pretty good progress until I moved from running cross-country to running on the road. Made the switch due to huge muddy puddles and fallen trees. Anyway, first run on the road I picked up a pain in my foot. Being male, I thought I could run it off so went out on R2 of week 7 and at the end was struggling to walk the 5 mins back home.

It turns out I have fractured the 2nd metatarsal in my left foot. So, no jogging for me for 6-8 weeks and in fact no walking at all for a few weeks!.

So, my question to you lot is, has anyone been in the same situation and switched to another activity?.

What I'm most interested in is knowing how you matched a programme in your 'new' pursuit to C25K?

I'd rather not have to start from scratch with C25K after my toe heals itself.

Thanks all!

Cheers

Lionel

So sorry to hear about your fracture............you may not be able to do much at all for a couple of weeks but if you are able you can maintain a lot of your fitness by swimming or cross training using a bike or elliptical any non-impact activity is still going to help, if you are a member of a gym rowing machines are a great way of building up your aerobic capacity...............good luck and keep us updated on your progress

Hi Mum!,

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your advice. The rowing machine thing hadn't occurred to me actually!

So sorry to hear this, boo & hiss!!! Yes I would think swimming would be a good option, I have seen a couple of people on here building up by swimming similar intervals/distances, etc. make sure you rest also a bit to give your body a chance to heal.

Thanks Marly. An excuse to lie on the sofa this weekend I suppose!. Do you think that swimming for the amount of time I would normally jog for would be similar in terms of the aerobic benefits?

I'm not sure but it would be better than nothing! Hoping that the people who I've seen on here who have started out or supplemented with swimming, etc will see this & offer advice. I would suggest starting with the intervals/times, etc suggested in c25k but do a bit more if you think you have it in you...
