Hello lovely people!
Do you have any suggestions for winter 'gear'? Would i need a beanie type hat or would i be better getting a headband/ear warmer type thing? Any suggestions re makes? Do i need climalite etc or will cheaper brands be ok? Do i need a torch type head device!? I run on road mostly - v early morning!

Greetings. another very early morning runner here. This will be my first running winter, but so far I have got:
A selection of long sleeved tech tops. They don't have to be anything fancy although Sports Direct do have some at great prices!
A running gillet that was on offer in a running shop.
Gloves
Running hat; a tech thing and not a wooly thing.
Weatherproof running jacket.
Tech running bottoms.
I'm also going to get a pair of Yaktrax for ice and snow: amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B003RL...
As for illuminatory devices, I'm going to carry a small hand torch on my running belt and use it as and when necessary, relying predominantly on street lighting. I run on the roads and don't fancy blinding what little pedestrian/motorist/bicyclist/fellow runner/fox traffic there is at that hour of the day.

My pleasure. Swanscot's Buff suggestion is a great one too; I have a collection that I use on the bike. I'll give one a go for running. I think head torches are a personal choice; I'm not sure I fancy one.
I got another long sleeved top from Sports Direct this week - they have a great selection at some really good prices. On Saturday I got a couple of those snap-on reflective bands as well, just to help make me a bit more visible.
I thought I'd get prepared nice and early, give me a better chance of not forgetting anything vital! 
Many of us find a Buff (other brands of tube-like headwear are available) are warm enough instead of a hat. On the coldest mornings I fold my Buff so it has three layers of material over my ears, but the top is still open, otherwise I get too hot. Try one and see. If you still find you need a hat, the buff can be worn around your neck as a scarf. I wear one around my neck and one pulled up over my mouth and nose when on my cycle.

You will definitely need gloves, even when your body is boiling!
I use a headband as my head still gets hot but my ears feel the cold.
I got a set of compression base layer undies from Aldi and they're great as an extra layer under tights and long sleeved top.
A lightweight rain jacket also serves to keep the wind out.
Oh and a buff over your mouth for those mornings when you are breathing in freezing air.

Last winter I wore a buff, a hat and gloves - and then kept the rest fairly light - I found that if my hands a head were warm, then everything else followed.
Ooh! There is an Anton Krupicka signature Buff! Nerdy Fanboy in me comes to the fore. Maybe if I have one of those i will be able to run like him? Or look as (dare I say it ) buff as he does? Has to be done.
Oh I really like those buffs, Ive seen 'em before but didn't realise there were so many ways of wearing them, think I will get one of those xxx
I have done a couple of winters and I have to admit this morning I really wished I had worn gloves. Although I wear full length running tights in the winter and start of with a long sleeved top over a short sleeved, I find that I start peelling the top layers off as i run and have got in a terrible tangle with trying to listen to Laura/music. So whatever you buy, bare in mind that your top layers may need to come off, so ease of access is everything - even the gloves towards the end of the run!
Well, let me add an alternative view if I may! As an overweight middle-aged woman I have very rarely been too cold. Yes, okay, sometimes I step out of the house and it's a tad parky, but by the time I'm walking for my warm-up I'm generally all right, and as soon as I start running I'm fine. I usually run between 7am and 9am so I'm not that early and I live in Derbyshire where it can be a little cool in the mornings on the tops of the hills. At its very worst last year and the year before, I had a buff, a vest top under a long-sleeved top and the thermal leggings because my thighs went a very unattractive blotchy colour (not that I'm suggesting there's much that's attractive about my thighs normally). The buff was useful to breathe through because I'm slightly asthmatic and the cold air makes me cough to start with.
