Running watch

Hi All. Currently halfway through week 7 and determined to finish the programme.

With that in mind, I am thinking ahead and the day when Laura won't be telling me how far and well done etc etc.

I am thinking of purchasing a running watch but there appears to be about a million (give or take) on the market! Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for a 'runner' who will attempt to get out at least 3 times per week for 5k?

Thanks :)

I have the basic Garmin Forerunner 10 and it's fine. Mine was good for 10 miles when I did the race. It wasn't able to have enough battery power for a day's hiking mind you but that's not what its for, I was just hoping it would stay the course.

I really like the virtual pacer facility on the watch. If you are working to a running plan from asics etc which tells you what speed you need to running on a particular day, you then input this info into the watch before setting off and it tells you whether you're behind, on or ahead of the pace. I use the auto pause too which stops the watch to take account of pedestrian crossings etc. It then restarts automatically. It's the cheapest watch of the group as it is no frills. I got mine from T*sco

Thanks for the advice - I have done some more research and it looks like Garmin is the way to go!

I, too, have the Forerunner 10. Like misswobble says, it is a no frills, does the job, can connect to your computer to synch your runs with Garmin Express on the Grmin website, including mapping your route. To sv on battery, I turn my watch off hen I'm not wearing it.

Hi. I also have the Garmin Forerunner 10 after seeking advice on this site and I have not been disappointed. I haven't ventured much past the 5k since graduation and this watch does all I need it to do and probably more. I switch it off between runs and before going out I put it on an outside windowsill to log on to the satellite and so far have not had any difficulties. I live in NE Scotland in an area which is not great for signals but the Garmin hasn't let me down yet. I have used it in four different locations In NE and Highlands and it has mapped each run with no problems. I love it

I would agree the forerunner is great - I got the 220 it's cheaper than uk and I got 20% off but I agree the 10 is the best value for money. There is also the 15 out with heart monitor but I don't use my heart monitor but that's because I am just looking at pace and distance at the moment. Have a look at the garmin forerunner series - you won't disappointed.

I also have a Garmin Forerunner 220, and like it a lot.

If I were to buy a new running watch today, I'd splash out on the Garmin Fenix 2, as it does so much more, including working as a "proper" GPS with directions. Having said that, it's eye watering expensive compared to some of the less-frills models.
