Life is Sweet (1990)

So got the results of my MRI scan this morning and I'm still a medical mystery! The great news is that the scan showed no injury or stress fractures and I CAN RUN AGAIN!

The surgeon told me to take it easy and stop immediately if the swelling gets worse. He's baffled but is going to refer me to a dermatologist as the skin around the toes is different. Honestly, in one way I wish I'd just continued running but I guess we should err on the side of caution with this running business.

Ok, so can't wait to get out there again, but where to start? I've not run since the middle of May but have kept fit by cycling and weights. I was thinking of doing 10 minutes for the first time out. What do you think?

Hooray, great news that you have got the go-ahead to run again. I can't believe that was the middle of May though!

I think go for what feels right to you. I had 3 months off from end of March to almost end of June and actually started on week one again for one run, then week 2 for one run, then week 3 for one run, then week four for one run then did week five and six as they stand then I went back up to 30 minutes. Took just over 3 weeks and I felt pretty okay throughout. It worked very well for me, but then I am wearing on a bit :)

Thanks lizziebeth. That's good advice. And I have a sneaky feeling we're exactly the same age!

...and isn't it a great age to be :)

Fabulous age! I've never felt fitter, happier or more content with my life!

Wow, that is such wonderful news! Congratulations, you must be over the moon!!

I think you should go out there and listen to your body. Maybe 10 minutes is the right amount. Maybe it's 5 minutes, or maybe it's 20. Who knows? But a gentle jog until you feel you have to stop is probably a good way to gauge your current running ability.

Once again, congratulations with the good news. Wonderful :)

Thank you Tomas. Only other runners understand how I feel!

Great news IP. Maybe a gentle run walk to start see how it goes and keep going if you feel good but don't overdo it. Have a great one!

Hooray - great news! Why not just go out and do a gentle run and see how it feels. That will give you an idea of where to start back. Just don't be tempted to do too much straight away.

I did a sneaky one yesterday! Did 3 lots of 3 minutes running with 1 minute walk between. Foot seems no worse this morning, so onwards and upwards! I will take it very slowly though.

Good news! Just go out for a lovely, relaxing run with no pressure to do anything in particular. Some lovely scenery would help things along nicely

Good luck

That's good news that you can get back out running! :-) Just take it steady, I am sure you will know what feels right and you can increase gradually. So pleased for you, but what a mystery eh! x

I'm taking it very carefully but I'd still like to know what the problem is. Don't think I like being a medical mystery!

That great news you can run again. It is very strange that still nobody knows what is the problem, you are a medical mystery! Take it easy and happy running

Thank you JJ. I think I've been out injured for most of this year but must look to the future and all that. Delighted that you've made it back again!
