Many years ago, I drove to the top of Pikes Peak 14,000 feet - I could hardly breathe while I was up there. In an unpressurized aircraft, I think pilots have to use oxygen over 10,000 feet .

These runners are amazing. Having hiked at 4000m going over Dead Woman's Pass on the Inca Trail, I know how hard it is to simply put one foot in front of the other and keep moving - slowly! I couldn't imagine trying to run at that altitude. I wonder how these athletes train and get acclimatised for this race. Plus all that ascent in one go is a huge effort.
