HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? BMI check...

Uh, oh. In response to a request of photo in my new running gear I took me little camera out this morning, ballanced it on a rock and set the self timer....

I came home, took the battery out and charged it and I have just put it back in....and looked at the pics....

This morning on my way to the run, I heard a piece on the radio about offering a gastric band to anyone with a BMI of over 30, and that got me thinking and wondering what mine was..anyone else thought tah today?

On looking at the pics, I was horrified ~ I barely recognised the tub of lard in the pics, then I relaised that I had accidently taken a pic of the TREX in the kitchen, which explains why the battery was nearly flat. The pics of me wern't very flattering either. My tummy is bigger than it shopuld be, and my moobs are even more noticable than I thought. Oh, mirror in the bedroom, you are flattering...unfortunately.

I logged on to a site and put my vital stats in....OMG, I am overweight, ok, not by much, but I am!! I need to do something about it, and do it now. My BMI is nowhere near th 30 mark, but given time I could be heading that way.

More running for Sally, less bacon sarnies and more fruit and veg. I can do it, and I will do it. I shall get slimmer, and my skirt pic wil be more flattering. Promise.

Good plan Sally - take inspiration from misswobble!

Can't believe the picture was so awful that we need to be protected from it! We never quite see ourselves as the camera does do we?

in reply to Ullyrunner

Sally is now on a diet! She will eat more sensibly and take more exercise, and look to misswobble for inspiration.

I shall have to buy a new set of clothes though!!

My BMI was over 30! It aint now though.

If you want to do it then you will. No if, buts or maybe's. You'll crack it.

I am suitably inspired, believe me.

You are a true inspiration. I WILL do it.

Watch out for a slimmer and more svelt Sally running around Dartmoor.

My BMI was well over thirty (33), and given that I've just broken the 30 barrier a few weeks ago (yey) I'm almost a bit jealous of the news this morning.

Well not reallly - I dont want a gastric band, or surgery - and I know its better to do it myself! But still...

Keeping up the running and watching the calories is far less invasive!

I am massively impressed by your achievements. Reading about what you have achieved is truly inspirational. I SHALL do it, I WILL be a slimmer Sally.

You have proved to yourself that the best way to lose weight and get fit is by your own efforts. Just think of all the other benefits of running that you have discovered, that the gastric band crowd will never experience. You have taken control of your life and that action will permeate your whole life. I have to admit to being "Fattist", before I discovered this site, but people like you, who are turning their lives around, have my greatest respect. Go for it!!

Keep running, keep smiling.

in reply to IannodaTruffe

Hang on, I'm not that fat! I'm 5'9" and just over 12 stone!! I'm just fatter than I want to be!

BMI just into the 'overweight' range, but people like me, who have had testicular cancer, have a recognised problem regulating and keeping the lbs off. That's my excuse, not the bacon sarnies, mayonaise and crisps.

I have not taken offence at your comment, and thank you for your concern and support.

Running AND smiling; what, at the same time? Impossible....maybe an inane grin at oncoming runners, but a smile....steady on.

My response was to gnimia, Sally. I apologise for any misunderstanding. However I do insist on the smile, whoever you may be. I can't stop smiling, every time I run.

Haha at both of you - the funniest thing is, is that even realising that i techically fit in the "obese" bmi category, i don't/didn't think of myself as *that fat* - probably completely deluded but there a also probably lots of us out there!

Whether its cancer (wow - well done for getting though that) or quitting smoking (my excuse) - its the "turning your life around " as Truffle (as I like to call him!) says - thats the bit that counts

Smiling complulsory - even through gritted, gasping-for-air-and-water teeth!

in reply to IannodaTruffe

I was almost unable to smile ever again after a run earlier....running over very rough terrain with the Mrs and the dog. No problem with either, BUT there nearly was with me! A bit too confident, and a bit to fast down hill...recipe for near-disaster. Dartmoor tors are made of granite, and I'm made of some soft, squashy stuff, and I nearly found out which one would come off best in a coming together...thankfully I managed to avoid it ~ JUST.

Lesson learned....more slowly next time.

Sally lives to run again......

Sallycycle, are you sure you've done that calculation right? I'm a bit under 5'10" and weigh 11 stone 12 and my BMI is around 23....you can't be 30 BMI, that weight sounds just about right for your height.

in reply to

You are right in that I am about BMI 23, but it is in the overweight category, and I don't want to be there. I am working on it....

If I'm not careful, I will start heading northwards instead of going south...

I know some BMI charts vary, but BMI 23 is not in the overweight range. Most quote BMI 18.5 - 25 is Healthy. BMI 25 - 30 is Overweight.
